Location
This role requires working from our downtown Toronto office 4 days/week (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri). Candidates must be based within a 50-mile commuting distance of the office.
About the Role

You will help define the future of how we work by building AI powered workflows, automation, and experiences that drive leverage across Finance — spanning month-end close, SEC Reporting, FP&A, Technical Accounting, Tax, Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. This is high agency work in high ambiguity - turning messy problems into clean solutions, prototyping fast, and shipping.
You'll make systems design and tooling decisions that affect how our Finance operations scale – so we need people who think critically about what and why they build, the impact it will have on our team, and how to measure success.

What You'll Do
This is a hands-on individual contributor role. You will design, build, and ship automations — not just evaluate tools or write strategy decks.
- Turn complex Accounting and Finance problems into clear system designs, experiments, and implementation plans
- Build and maintain AI-powered automation that improves operational efficiency, accuracy, and scale across Finance functions
- Automate workflows (journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis) using SQL, Python, and agentic AI
- Maintain clean, auditable data throughout automated workflows, with dashboards and controls that support both operational and compliance needs
- Partner with the internal SOX team and external auditors to ensure automated processes meet compliance standards and are well-documented
- Build and scale AI literacy across the Finance team through runbooks, documentation, best practices, and hands-on training
What You'll Bring
- At least 5+ years of work experience building automation, operational workflows, or data systems in any industry.
- Familiarity with LLM deployment, context engineering and comfortable writing SQL or Python code
- Understanding of machine learning lifecycle concepts: training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring
Systems Thinking: You understand how data flows through operational systems. You can look at a business process, identify the inputs, outputs, dependencies, and failure modes, and design automation around it.
System Design: You take complex, messy problems and reduce them to simple, durable architecture.
Communication: Articulate problems clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. You write clean documentation, build dashboards that tell a story, and can walk a stakeholder through your design rationale.
AI Alchemy: You have high agency and a tinkering mindset. You default to experimenting, running variations with new tools and methods - LLMs, automation platforms, coding assistants until you can transmute data into high quality results. You're comfortable writing SQL code, working with APIs, and stitching tools together to ship solutions fast.
Impact Driven: You optimize for impact over novelty, choosing the right tools for the job and ensure performance, scalability and resiliency.

Your Impact
Axon Enterprise (Nasdaq: AXON) is seeking a Data Science Principal within the Office of the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). This is a hands-on enabler role for a technically exceptional professional with deep finance and accounting domain expertise. Your primary mission is to ensure that Axon’s AI builders, process owners, decision-makers, and auditors can operate with clean, trusted, well-governed, and audit-ready data. You will spend roughly half your time building data analytics tools and pipelines—leveraging AI as a development accelerator—to support complex, large-scale projects including mergers and acquisitions (M&A) integration, enterprise resource planning (ERP) system deployments, upstream data remediation, and SOX compliance initiatives.
The other half is strategic: partnering across Controllership, Finance Operations, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Internal Audit, and Technology to establish the data foundation that makes AI, automation, and audit readiness possible. You will use AI-assisted development tools (code generation, copilots, large language models) as part of your everyday build process.
What You’ll Do
Hands-On Building & Upstream Data Cleanliness (~50%)
• Design and develop data analytics tools, automated validation frameworks, and dashboards that give Finance Operations and Controllership real-time visibility into data health across enterprise systems. Use AI to rapidly prototype, test, and deploy these solutions.
• Drive upstream data hygiene cross-functionally: partner with source-system owners in Revenue Operations, Procurement, Human Resources, and Engineering to fix data issues where they originate, not after they propagate.
• Own data dictionaries, lineage documentation, and quality scorecards for critical controllership data assets. Establish and enforce master data management (MDM) standards.
• Partner with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Information Technology (IT) on integration strategy, ensuring seamless data flows between ERP, sub-ledgers, and the enterprise data platform. Support Snowflake data warehouse deployment.
Mergers & Acquisitions Data Integration
• Lead data workstreams for M&A transactions end-to-end: perform data due diligence on target companies, assess data quality risks, and build integration playbooks for onboarding acquired-company data into Axon’s enterprise platform.
• Design and execute data mapping, cleansing, and migration plans for post-acquisition integration—ensuring acquired entities are reporting on clean, consolidated data within defined timelines.
• For interim stage prior to M&A integration, build, own, and operate extract-transform-load (ETL) and extract-load-transform (ELT) pipelines that remediate data quality issues at the source—before data reaches downstream AI models, reporting, or analytics. Leverage AI-assisted development tools (copilots, code generation, large language models) to accelerate pipeline development and iteration.
• Build repeatable M&A controllership data integration frameworks—using AI to automate data profiling, matching, and anomaly detection—that scale as Axon’s acquisition pace accelerates.
Financial Controls, SOX & Audit Readiness
• Co-design data pipelines and analytics with auditability built in—traceable lineage, complete audit trails, and evidence that holds up under external audit.
• Build or collaborate with process owners to build close-support tools (GL-to-sub-ledger, intercompany, journal entries) that reduce manual effort and strengthen control evidence.
Enabling AI Builders & Process Owners
• Serve as the data enablement partner to Axon’s Controllership AI team and Controllership process owners—ensuring they have access to clean, well-structured, governed datasets for machine learning (ML), automation, and large language model (LLM) initiatives.
• Collaborate with AI builders to define data requirements, validate input data quality, and create feedback loops that continuously improve data upstream of AI/ML workflows.
• Create self-service analytics capabilities that enable FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Controllership teams to access trustworthy data without bottlenecks.
Partnership & Cross-Functional Leadership
• Serve as a trusted partner to the CIO, shaping technology roadmaps, enterprise architecture, and system integration decisions. Act as a strong ally to Controllership and Finance Operations.
• Engage stakeholders across FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Engineering, Product, Revenue Operations, and Legal to manage cross-functional data projects end-to-end. Influence without authority across global, distributed teams.
What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or a related field with 8+ years in data science, data engineering, or analytics.
• Hands-on builder: strong, current proficiency with Structured Query Language (SQL) and Python—you write code, build pipelines, and ship tools, not just direct others. Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to multiply your output.
• Deep experience with upstream data quality remediation, master data management, and data governance operationalization in a finance or accounting environment.
• Demonstrated M&A data integration experience: due diligence, data mapping, migration, and post-acquisition consolidation.
• Ability to build senior-level relationships, lead cross-functional projects end-to-end, and influence without direct authority across global teams.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP accounting processes (R2R, O2C, P2P, revenue recognition) or FP&A processes (budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis)—you understand the business logic, not just the data.
• Practical familiarity with SOX compliance and IT General Controls (ITGCs) sufficient to design audit-ready data pipelines, maintain traceable audit trails, and support internal audit teams and external auditors with data extracts, population listings, and control evidence—without needing to own the SOX program or control design.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Snowflake or comparable cloud data warehouse experience. Business intelligence (BI) platforms such as Sigma.
• High-growth, publicly traded technology company or digital transformation environment.
• Experience enabling AI/ML teams with clean data pipelines. Demonstrated use of AI code-generation in day-to-day development. Supervisory experience leading data teams.
• M&A integration at a company with an active acquisition strategy. Public safety, defense, or regulated industry background.
• Experience with audit management or financial close platforms/ERP and their data integration requirements; familiarity with how these tools consume and produce audit evidence.

What The Role Is
We are seeking a talented Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain our data infrastructure supporting mission-critical energy operations. You'll work at the intersection of renewable energy and data, developing pipelines that process everything from real-time asset performance data to complex trading and risk analytics. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on clean energy operations while working with a cutting-edge data stack including Snowflake, Dagster, dbt, Modal, and GitLab.
What You'll Be Doing
Analytics Infrastructure & Data Warehouse Management
- Design, deploy, and maintain scalable data infrastructure to support enterprise analytics and reporting needs
- Manage Snowflake instances, including performance tuning, security configuration, and capacity planning for growing data volumes
- Optimize query performance and resource utilization to control costs and improve processing speed
Data Pipeline Development & Orchestration
- Build and orchestrate complex ETL/ELT workflows using Dagster to ensure reliable, automated data processing for asset management and energy trading

What You'll Bring

About your role
We are looking for a forward-thinking Data Engineering Intern to join our team for Summer 2026. This isn't just a role about moving data from point A to point B; it’s about rethinking how those pipelines are built. You will sit at the intersection of core infrastructure and AI, building robust ETL processes while leveraging AI technologies to automate the very workflows you create.

A Day in the Life
- Build & Orchestrate: Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines to ingest data into our Snowflake warehouse using Python, SQL, and Airflow.
- AI-Driven Automation: Implement AI-powered solutions to streamline engineering tasks, including:
- Automating code generation and documentation.
- Building AI-driven data quality checks and anomaly detection.

Your Impact
Join Axon’s Business Solutions team as a Business Solutions Architect / Product Manager responsible for Axon’s Finance Systems portfolio. This role owns delivery and ongoing product management for critical finance platforms that support close, consolidation, revenue recognition, compliance, and financial reporting. In the near term, you will lead two high-visibility initiatives: the implementation of Axon’s Finance & Accounting Consolidation platform and a major RevStream upgrade. Over time, you will operate as the product owner for assigned finance systems, shaping roadmaps, prioritizing investments, and ensuring measurable business outcomes across Finance. You will partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Revenue Operations, Tax, IT, Engineering, and Enterprise Architecture. You own what gets delivered and why; technical teams own how it is built.

We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesday through Friday, with flexibility to work remotely on Mondays. Product & Program Leadership

Act as the product manager and delivery lead for Axon’s Finance Systems, including consolidation, revenue, close management, and reporting platforms.

Lead the Finance & Accounting Consolidation implementation end-to-end: scope definition, roadmap planning, delivery execution, stakeholder alignment, and value realization.

Own the RevStream upgrade and future revenue system enhancements, ensuring alignment with revenue recognition standards and Finance strategy.

Translate complex finance, accounting, and compliance requirements into clear product requirements, prioritized backlogs, and phased delivery plans.

Drive cross-functional execution across Finance, IT, Engineering, Data, and external vendors.

Own release planning, UAT strategy, cutover readiness, and post-implementation adoption.

Ensure regulatory, statutory, and tax requirements (GAAP, statutory reporting, GAAP-to-Tax, Pillar 2, revenue recognition) are embedded into product scope and validated.
Product Ownership & Governance

Serve as the system/product owner for assigned Finance Systems, accountable for roadmap prioritization, tradeoffs, and platform health.

Establish governance for finance system changes, data quality, financial hierarchies, and master data in partnership with Finance and MDM teams.

Partner with solution architects and engineering leaders to review designs and manage dependencies (without owning technical architecture).

Define success metrics, track adoption, and communicate outcomes, risks, and tradeoffs to Finance and IT leadership.

Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve controls, and scale finance operations through automation and workflow improvements.
What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
-
8+ years of experience in finance systems, business systems product management, or enterprise delivery roles
-
Deep understanding of financial close, consolidation, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and statutory reporting
-
Proven experience owning complex finance system initiatives (e.g., consolidation platforms, revenue systems, close automation)
-
Experience with platforms such as OneStream, Oracle EPM, Workiva, BlackLine, RevStream, or similar finance tools
-
Strong product management capabilities: roadmap ownership, backlog prioritization, stakeholder alignment, UAT leadership, and phased delivery
-
Technical fluency with ERPs and analytics platforms (D365 F&O, Snowflake, Power BI, Sigma) sufficient to partner successfully with engineering and data teams
-
Ability to operate autonomously on ambiguous, high-impact initiatives
-
Strong communication skills and executive presence; comfortable presenting recommendations and tradeoffs to senior stakeholders

Drive cross-functional execution across Finance, IT, Engineering, Data, and external vendors.

Own release planning, UAT strategy, cutover readiness, and post-implementation adoption.

Ensure regulatory, statutory, and tax requirements (GAAP, statutory reporting, GAAP-to-Tax, Pillar 2, revenue recognition) are embedded into product scope and validated.
Product Ownership & Governance

Serve as the system/product owner for assigned Finance Systems, accountable for roadmap prioritization, tradeoffs, and platform health.

Establish governance for finance system changes, data quality, financial hierarchies, and master data in partnership with Finance and MDM teams.

Partner with solution architects and engineering leaders to review designs and manage dependencies (without owning technical architecture).

Define success metrics, track adoption, and communicate outcomes, risks, and tradeoffs to Finance and IT leadership.

Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve controls, and scale finance operations through automation and workflow improvements.
What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

8+ years of experience in finance systems, business systems product management, or enterprise delivery roles

Deep understanding of financial close, consolidation, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and statutory reporting

Proven experience owning complex finance system initiatives (e.g., consolidation platforms, revenue systems, close automation)

Experience with platforms such as OneStream, Oracle EPM, Workiva, BlackLine, RevStream, or similar finance tools

Strong product management capabilities: roadmap ownership, backlog prioritization, stakeholder alignment, UAT leadership, and phased delivery

What You’ll Do
- Lead day-to-day revenue accounting, including key revenue streams, journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures.

- Review and document technical accounting conclusions for complex contracts and multi-element arrangements (hardware, SaaS, professional services).

What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, including required ASC 606 experience in a publicly traded company environment.
- Strong technical expertise in complex revenue arrangements across hardware, SaaS, and professional services.
- Experience operating in a SOX-compliant environment and supporting audits.
- Demonstrated cross-functional partnership with Sales, FP&A, IT, and Operations.
- ERP experience required (D365 or comparable system); advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with automation and data tools (e.g., Sigma, Snowflake, Power BI, Salesforce, RevStream) strongly preferred.

What You’ll Do

What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.

- Experience operating in a SOX-compliant environment and supporting audits.
- Demonstrated cross-functional partnership with Sales, FP&A, IT, and Operations.

You will lead revenue accounting operations and serve as a strategic partner to FP&A, Commercial Controllership, IT, Professional Services, and Sales. What You’ll Do
- Lead day-to-day revenue accounting, including key revenue streams, journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition and related accounts in compliance with ASC 606.
- Review and document technical accounting conclusions for complex contracts and multi-element arrangements (hardware, SaaS, professional services).
- Partner cross-functionally to evaluate contracts, resolve revenue issues, and optimize order-to-cash processes.
- Oversee monthly and quarterly close activities, analytics, and revenue reporting.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and support internal and external audits, including SOX compliance.
- Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Coach and develop team members while fostering a high-performance culture.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, including required ASC 606 experience in a publicly traded company environment.
- Strong technical expertise in complex revenue arrangements across hardware, SaaS, and professional services.
- Experience operating in a SOX-compliant environment and supporting audits.
- Demonstrated cross-functional partnership with Sales, FP&A, IT, and Operations.
- ERP experience required (D365 or comparable system); advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with automation and data tools (e.g., Sigma, Snowflake, Power BI, Salesforce, RevStream) strongly preferred.
- Finance or FP&A experience a plus.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting matters clearly.

Your Impact
Law enforcement agencies need training systems informed by real data about how officers perform in the field. We've spent the last few years collecting that data and validating the data products that create actionable insights that trainers can use to make encounters more effective, less injurious, and safer for everyone involved. We've shipped the simple models, but now we need to get our customer-validated models into production. Your job is not just to ship them, but to ensure that we have a strategic pipeline to continue delivering data products for our customers for years to come. What works in research needs to be production-grade, reliable, and reusable.
We're a small, technically deep team embedded in Axon's TASER pillar. Our work spans hardware telemetry and behavioral science — we analyze TASER device data, build models that drive training recommendations for law enforcement agencies, and ship the analytical tools that get those insights to the people who can act on them. Our analyses reach the C-suite. Our models become user-facing features. We're working toward Axon's Moonshot: reduce fatal officer-involved shootings by 50% in the next decade.
The head of product was a Staff Engineer. Our TPM ran a 60-person engineering organization. Both product managers have quantitative degrees — applied mathematics and engineering. Our program manager for TREND is a former state police lieutenant with over 30 years of experience in law enforcement. Our designer is part of the team, not separated from it. We built this team to cover the full space — engineering, data, product, and domain — and this hire is the next deliberate addition.
This is the opposite of a silo — and it comes with a tradeoff: you won't always have another SWE in the room, so you'll need to be technically self-sufficient. What you get in return is a team with more depth of experience per person than most engineering environments you've worked in.
What You’ll Do
Location: This role is based out of one of our US-based offices (Seattle or Scottsdale) and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation.
Reports to: Director, TASER Data Science
- Build and ship data products: dashboards, metrics systems, and recommendation tools that drive real decisions
- Own production ML deployment — bring models from research to reliable production systems with monitoring, versioning, and operational rigor
- Build and own data pipelines from TASER device telemetry through to analytics surfaces used by agencies and internal stakeholders
- Set technical direction for the team's engineering practices — the data scientists here write code and want to do it better; you'll be the senior engineering voice they've been missing
- Work across the full stack — device-side data ingestion through user-facing analytics — and move between projects to build breadth
- Use AI tools as a core part of your development workflow, not a novelty
What You Bring
Must-haves:
- You write production code at a high standard — strongly typed, comprehensively tested, designed for the people who will maintain it after you. We write Python like software engineers, not data scientists.
- You've deployed and operated ML systems in production: model serving, monitoring, failure handling, and the operational rigor that keeps them running
- You identify the most important technical work and go after it — you've shaped technical roadmaps, influenced peers and organizational direction, and moved goals forward with or without explicit direction
- You define the problem as much as you solve it — you thrive in a team where requirements evolve as you learn, and you see that as a feature, not a bug
- You've worked with real-world messy data: device logs, behavioral data, event streams, or similar
Strong preferences:
- Advanced degree in a quantitative or analytical field — PhDs are very welcome, we already have three
- Intellectual background outside computer science is genuinely valued here: statistics, physics, engineering, biology, economics, linguistics, philosophy — it doesn't have to be a "hard science." We hire for intellectual diversity because it makes the work better.
- Hands-on experience with ML production tooling: model registry, serving infrastructure, pipeline orchestration, and model monitoring
- Experience with cloud data platforms in an ML context (Azure ML, Databricks, Snowflake) and batch or streaming pipeline architecture
- Experience with hardware-adjacent data: device telemetry, IoT event logs, or similar

Senior Software Engineer, AI Platform (Corporate AI Team)
Team & Role Overview
Axon’s Corporate AI Team sits within the Enterprise Data organization and focuses on internal-facing AI solutions that help Axon employees do more high‑value work with less manual effort. The team builds and operates Cortex, Axon’s internal AI platform that provides GPT‑class models, chat assistants, and secure integrations with systems like Quip, Jira, Slack, Microsoft 365, Snowflake, and more.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer, AI Platform to help design, build, and scale this platform. In this role, you’ll:
- Own core services and integrations that power AI experiences for thousands of Axon employees.
- Collaborate with Corporate AI, Data Engineering, and business teams to turn real workflows into secure, reliable AI‑powered tools.
- Help define best practices and patterns for building production‑grade LLM and agentic workloads at Axon.
This is a hands‑on senior IC role—you’ll spend most of your time designing, coding, and operating production systems, not managing people.
What You’ll Do
Build and Evolve the AI Platform
- Design, build, and operate services that power Axon’s internal AI platform (Cortex), including chat experiences, agents, and integrations with enterprise systems.
- Implement and standardize patterns for deploying AI‑driven applications (APIs, web services, workflows, agents) across Axon’s cloud environments.
- Own and extend connectors and MCP integrations (e.g., Jira, Quip, Slack, M365, Snowflake) that allow LLMs to safely read and write data in Axon systems.
- Measure and improve reliability, latency, and cost for AI workloads, using telemetry and feedback from real users.
Deployment, Integration, and Reliability
- Drive the end‑to‑end lifecycle of new AI features—from prototype to hardened production service (design, implementation, testing, rollout, and operations).
- Evaluate new AI services (e.g., OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Azure ML) for fit, performance, and cost; recommend and implement the right options for each use case.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and auditing for AI services, ensuring we can trace usage, detect anomalies, and keep systems healthy in production.
Enablement, Best Practices, and Architecture
- Help define and document best practices for GPT/LLM solution development, including prompt engineering, RAG patterns, agentic workflows, and safe tool use.
- Partner with Corporate AI and Enterprise Architects to shape reference architectures for AI‑enabled apps and workflows (scalability, resiliency, observability, data access).
- Contribute to internal starter kits, training content, and templates that help other engineers and analysts build on the platform effectively.
Security, Governance, and Responsible AI
- Implement and maintain secure patterns for API key management, secrets, and access to models and data sources, aligned with Axon’s security and compliance standards.
- Work with Data, Security, and Governance partners to operationalize responsible AI guardrails—e.g., model selection, data minimization, logging, and usage controls.
- Ensure that new capabilities respect permissions, auditing, and policy requirements across systems like Jira, Quip, Slack, M365, and Snowflake.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate closely with Data Engineering, Solution Architecture, and business teams (Finance, Sales, Operations, etc.) to turn real workflows into repeatable AI solutions.
- Clearly communicate design decisions, trade‑offs, and status to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Participate in brainstorming and discovery sessions to identify “big dumb problems worth solving” with AI and automation.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating production services or platforms.
- Strong proficiency in at least one of: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Java.
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and comfort working with cloud‑native services (functions, containers, managed databases, queues, storage).
- Solid understanding of web service fundamentals (APIs, authentication/authorization, observability, CI/CD) and how to build reliable, maintainable systems.
- Demonstrated interest in AI/ML and LLMs—for example, integrating with OpenAI, Bedrock, or similar APIs; building GPT‑style apps; or using AI‑assisted development tools.
