We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll work on the backend of our platform, helping medical device companies get their products to market faster. You’ll take ownership of features from start to finish, designing the architecture, writing the code, and seeing everything through to production. Your work will have a direct impact on the future of healthcare technology.
This is a hybrid role in Vienna, with a minimum of three days per week spent on-site. We’re open to remote work for exceptional candidates.

What You’ll Own & Contribute To
Database Design
Design and evolve PostgreSQL schemas, write efficient queries, apply indexing strategies, and help ensure the database remains performant and maintainable as the product grows.
Backend Development
Build new integrations between the Ketryx platform and other systems, APIs, and workflows. Contribute to improving latency, throughput, and fault tolerance across the backend stack.
Maintainable Systems
Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to standards around migrations, documentation, and testing. Help ensure the system remains easy to understand, debug, and extend.
Operational Reliability
Participate in monitoring, debugging, and incident response. Help identify performance bottlenecks and reliability issues, and contribute fixes and improvements.
Collaboration
Work closely with Product, Client Operations, Compliance, Security, and other engineers to deliver features that meet both business and regulatory requirements and resolve any technical challenges that come up
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience working as a software engineer, with strong experience in backend development
- Solid skills in TypeScript
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL: schema design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning
- Solid understanding of backend performance and maintainability, including refactoring and technical debt management
- Comfortable collaborating across teams and participating in technical discussions and design reviews
- Comfortable working in English and collaborating across teams
Bonus Points
- Experience with Prisma and Next.js
- Experience with GraphQL (urql or Apollo)
- Familiarity with AWS services like S3, RDS, and Elastic Beanstalk
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes in production or near-production environments.
- Strong habits around testing (Jest, Cucumber, Playwright)
- Experience working in regulated industries like healthcare or finance
- Experience with Kotlin and Spring
- An interest in mentoring and helping others grow

Compensation
At Ketryx, we offer a competitive and transparent compensation package that reflects your experience and skills:
For candidates in Austria with 3–5 years of experience, the gross annual salary starts at €70,000+.
For candidates in Austria with more than 5 years of experience, the gross annual salary starts at €90,000+.
We offer all-in contracts, with final compensation tailored to your qualifications and experience. In addition to the base salary, our package includes a performance-based bonus and stock options, aligning your success with the company’s growth. For remote candidates, salary may be adjusted slightly based on location.

Your mission
As a software engineer within Bitpanda’s Trade Hub, you will help design, build and scale the core systems that power our trading ecosystem end-to-end — from pricing, execution and portfolio lifecycle, to asset infrastructure, hedging and prime services. You will work on highly available, low-latency and financially critical back-end services that handle order flow, market data, risk, balances, assets and exposure management at scale. Your work will directly impact how customers trade, how liquidity is managed, how portfolios are valued, and how Bitpanda operates safely and efficiently across markets. You will collaborate closely with product, quantitative, risk and trading stakeholders to deliver resilient, high-performance systems that form the backbone of our trading platform.
As a bonus, you get work on new age tech projects, tackling architectural and conceptual challenges, integrating with 3rd party vendors and interface and collaborate with many other Engineers and teams within Bitpanda.
What you’ll do
- Design and develop scalable, resilient, message-driven services using Java
- Write clean and future proof code with 80% unit test test coverage, end to end and integration testing before deploying into event driven microservices architecture
- Optimise payment modules/services to ensure reliability, maintainability, performance and scalability using tools like
- Drive innovation by researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in backend development, ensuring our applications remain cutting-edge.
Who you are
- Knowledge and experience of software development using modern frameworks such as Spring Boot, with Java as your main programming language
- Understanding of relational and non-relational databases (bonus points for experience with Postgres and MongoDB)
- Experience creating and maintaining publicly available REST APIs with a keen understanding of performance optimisation and scalability
- Practical knowledge in using message-oriented middleware as we’re working with event driven microservices (ideally Apache Kafka or ZeroMQ)
- Understanding of CI/CD: familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes is ideal but any public cloud experience is fine

You Mission
As a Software Engineer in the Financial Crime Prevention (FCP) team at Bitpanda, you will build the systems that keep Bitpanda safe, secure, and compliant at scale. You’ll work on high-throughput, low-latency services that detect, prevent, and respond to suspicious activity across payments, trading, and user accounts. Your work will directly impact the integrity of our platform and protect millions of users from financial crime, fraud, and compliance risk.
What you'll do
- Design and operate scalable, event-driven backend services using Java 25, Micronaut/Spring, and Kafka to power real-time detection and prevention workflows
- Build and maintain core FCP systems, including transaction monitoring, risk scoring, alerting, and reporting pipelines
- Ensure production-grade reliability with ≥80% unit test coverage, integration and end-to-end tests, and leverage AI-assisted code review tools like Claude Code
- Integrate with internal and external systems, including payment providers, trading services, and compliance tools, handling edge cases and high-throughput data streams
- Continuously improve system performance, observability, and scalability while meeting strict compliance and regulatory requirements
Who you are
- Strong backend engineering experience with Java (Micronaut or Spring) and distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, messaging, failure modes, concurrency)
- Experience building systems where correctness, reliability, and low-latency decision-making are critical
- Skilled in testing strategies, ensuring correctness at scale, and leveraging tools like Claude Code for code quality and review efficiency
- Familiar with event-driven architectures, streaming platforms (Kafka), and cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes)
- Motivated to solve complex financial crime problems and build infrastructure that protects users and the business at scale
