Key Responsibilities

• Bridge the gap between high-level electrical engineering design, testing, and physical deployment.
• Assisting in the electrical build of our power converters, actively working with the electrical and mechanical engineering teams.
• Testing and commissioning of our power converters from prototyping to certification, and through deployment.
• Actively partner with design engineers to provide feedback on "Design for Manufacturing" (DFM) and "Design for Test" (DFT), helping to improve hardware reliability through every prototype build.

Education and Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics testing, high-voltage/current testing, or utility-scale energy projects.
• Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or higher (or equivalent vocational mastery/certification).
• Experience in constructing first-of-kind power subassemblies while maintaining high levels of process control and technical documentation.
• Experience operating specialized testing equipment and fabricating custom test rigs or load banks to simulate various grid and off-grid conditions.
• Proven track record in high-stakes, fast-paced, agile teams and environments where meticulous craftsmanship, active problem solving, and heavy collaboration across multiple disciplines are required.
• Extensive experience building and testing high-power conversion systems for both grid-tied and off-grid applications.
• Experience with PLC programming or basic Python scripting for automated test equipment (ATE). Preferred but not required

Specific Skills / Abilities

• Expert knowledge of high-voltage safety protocols, PPE requirements, and industry standards for handling power supplies and energy storage systems.
• Proven ability to build complex electrical cabinets, power stacks, and busbar assemblies to exacting engineering specifications.
• Skilled in using high-speed oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and thermal cameras to validate system performance and gather technical data.
• Management of liquid cooling loops, heat sinks, and airflow for high-density power electronics.
• Skilled in precision soldering and SMT rework on power-stage PCBAs, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, and magnetic components.
• Proficiency in electrical failure analysis at the component and system levels, identifying root causes in complex power loops and control circuits.
• Ability to maintain meticulous records of test results, modifications, and "as-built" schematics to support iterative engineering design.
• Familiarity with the installation and qualification of grid-interactive systems, including synchronization hardware, protection relays, and utility interconnects. Preferred but not required

Key Responsibilities

• Bridge design and production by building complex assemblies—from delicate PCBAs to heavy-duty power systems
• Perform CAD reviews, precision instrumentation, and advanced troubleshooting
• Manage R&D workshop build-outs and operate fabrication equipment

Education and Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in high-stakes prototyping and manufacturing environments, ideally paired with an Associate’s degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related technical field (or equivalent vocational certification).
• Experience in constructing first-of-kind subassemblies while maintaining high levels of process control and technical documentation.
• Expertise in operating fabrication equipment (3D printers, power machinery, and machine shop equipment) and leading workshop build-outs, including space planning and T-slot fabrication.

Specific Skills / Abilities

• Proven ability to build electro-mechanical assemblies to exacting specs, including PCBAs, sensitive wiring, and structural sheet metal.
• Mastery of custom wiring for both signal and heavy-duty power systems, including high-quality soldering, crimping, and harness construction.
• Proficiency in reviewing 2D/3D CAD and a strong interest in modifying parts and engineering drawings to meet requirements.
• Skilled in installing/qualifying delicate instrumentation, executing engineering tests, and processing technical data.
• Advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including failure analysis and the creation of new detection processes.
• Competency in wiring high and low voltage facility systems, including transformers, disconnects, and power supplies.

  • Best practices for signal integrity, high speed interconnects, communication links (e.g. – SPI, I2C, UART) EMI/EMC etc.

GridBlock has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Summer Internship Program. If you’re passionate about sustainability and want hands-on experience building next-generation power conversion hardware, this internship may be a great fit.

As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you’ll be part of our Research & Development team working on GridBlock’s soft switching solid-state transformer platform and advanced power electronics technologies. You’ll help bring up and validate SMPS, run lab testing across operating conditions, debug issues, and iterate designs to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability. If you’re excited by soft-switching, multiport power conversion, and the challenge of building real hardware that enables modern electrification and resilient infrastructure—come build it with us.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Debug hardware/firmware issues using lab equipment (oscilloscope, power analyzer, electronic loads, DMM, current probes), identify root cause, and propose/implement design fixes.
• PCB Design: Schematic capture and PCB layout (Cadence preferred)
• Maintain clear documentation of test results, design issues, corrective actions, and design changes for future builds and knowledge transfer.
• Execute bench validation across operating conditions (line/load transients, thermal sweeps, efficiency mapping, fault scenarios), and evaluate stability, performance, and robustness.

Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Specific Skills / Abilities

• Strong knowledge of digital and analog circuit analysis.
• Understanding of power semiconductor devices (MOSFET/IGBT/SiC/GaN), gate driving, and protection (UVLO/OCP/OVP/OTP).
• Understanding of switched mode power supplies.
• Ability to interpret datasheets, select components, and evaluate derating, thermal limits, and reliability considerations.
• Strong skills with electrical test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and bench power supplies.
• Experience debugging electronics and modifying PCBs.
• Experience creating and following test plans.
• Experience programming embedded systems in C.
