The Mechanical Engineering Intern is a vital member of Endeavour’s GridBlock design team, working directly with their Senior Engineers and focusing on cutting edge product design of their Energy Router.
Because of our dedication to efficiency and maintaining smooth operations, GridBlock is highly selective about the people we bring on board—our work depends on it. Therefore, the Mechanical Engineering Intern must be agile and comfortable in a rapidly changing environment. The right person should be professional, trustworthy with confidential information, highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work equally as well independently as with a team.

GridBlock is an innovative energy router that dynamically manages the flow of energy between multiple sources and loads and is able to create and operate a self-contained microgrid. GridBlock packetizes and routes electrical energy with isolation and high accuracy to serve AC or DC systems seamlessly. The precision technology enables a bidirectional power flow on multiple ports or channels concurrently, bringing the flexibility and control of Internet routers and switches to the electrical grid. Increasingly, electrical installations require smart integration of EV or e-truck charging, battery storage, solar panels, and critical loads, with custom design and build for each location adding to the cost of implementation. GridBlock simplifies all of this with a flexible, software-defined, modular solution that can manage a wide variety of end-use configurations and applications.

The GigaGrid product team is developing a plug-and-play framework for monitoring and controlling the power grid. The flagship solution, from GigaGrid is a 100% dispatchable, distributed solution that is simpler and lower cost than current solar + storage systems. It combines solar PV arrays with 2.5 hours, 5 hours, or 10 hours of modular battery storage, tri-port power converters and integrated racking. It reduces the levelized cost of energy and increases energy delivered by avoiding most of the solar clipping and roundtrip losses in conventional systems. Because the power is 100% dispatchable, it allows for grid insertion anytime, whenever it is most valuable. This dramatically improves the economics of solar energy by minimizing the reliance on energy sales during peak daylight hours when solar power can have little or no value as a grid resource.

As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you’ll be part of our Research & Development team working on GridBlock’s soft switching solid-state transformer platform and advanced power electronics technologies. You’ll help bring up and validate SMPS, run lab testing across operating conditions, debug issues, and iterate designs to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability. If you’re excited by soft-switching, multiport power conversion, and the challenge of building real hardware that enables modern electrification and resilient infrastructure—come build it with us.
