Your Opportunity

The Director of Product Engineering is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of Scion’s internal and resident-facing software tools. This role sits at the intersection of product management, engineering execution, and business strategy—ensuring Scion’s technology platforms drive operational efficiency, enhance resident experience, and scale with portfolio growth.
This leader will build and manage high-performing engineering teams, partner closely with product and operations stakeholders, and establish a modern, scalable technology ecosystem aligned with Scion’s long-term digital strategy.

Your Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute the engineering vision for Scion’s software platforms, aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, QA, and technical leads.
  • Establish best practices for architecture, coding standards, testing, and deployment.
  • Drive adoption of modern development frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and scalable systems.

Product & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Product, Analytics, Revenue Management, and Operations teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate on product roadmaps, ensuring engineering feasibility, scalability, and performance.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in prioritization, balancing speed, quality, and business impact. 

Platform Development & Ownership

  • Oversee development of internal tools (leasing, operations, reporting, integrations) and resident-facing applications. 
  • Ensure systems integrate seamlessly with third-party platforms (e.g., property management systems, CRMs, payment systems).
  • Drive data platform improvements to support analytics, reporting, and decision-making. 

Delivery & Execution

  • Implement agile development processes to improve speed, predictability, and transparency.
  • Own delivery timelines, resource planning, and execution quality.
  • Monitor KPIs such as system performance, uptime, deployment frequency, and defect rates. 

Technology & Architecture

  • Lead architectural decisions to ensure systems are scalable, secure, and maintainable. 
  • Champion cloud-native solutions (e.g., AWS/Azure), APIs, and microservices where appropriate. 
  • Ensure adherence to cybersecurity, data privacy, and compliance standards. 

Operational Excellence

  • Improve engineering efficiency through tooling, automation, and CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Manage vendor relationships and external development partners as needed. 
  • Establish incident response processes and ensure high system reliability. 

What We Require

Experience
•    8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3–5+ years in a leadership role. 
•    Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering SaaS or enterprise software products. 
•    Experience building and scaling internal tools or operational platforms preferred. 
•    Background in e-commerce, property management/revenue management, or marketplace platforms is a plus. 
Technical Expertise
•    Strong understanding of modern web architectures, APIs, and cloud infrastructure. 
•    Experience with languages/frameworks such as JavaScript (React, Node), Ruby on Rails, Python, or similar. 
•    Familiarity with data systems, integrations, and analytics platforms. 
•    Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. 
Leadership & Business Skills
•    Demonstrated ability to align engineering efforts with business outcomes. 
•    Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
•    Experience working in cross-functional, product-driven environments. 
•    Ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization.

Operational Details

  • Job location is based at Scion’s Chicago corporate headquarters.
  • Working hours consist of standard daytime business hours.

The base salary range for this full-time position is base + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
