About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. This is all made possible by our team of 9,000+ full-time staff, drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. To learn more, please see our Why Work Here blog post.

Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, operates under the local brand Tupande. Close to 500 staff in our Kakamega headquarters support 1,747 field staff and serve more than 1 million farmers. In Nairobi, around 50 staff support global functions like procurement, recruitment, government relations, and communications.

About the Role

Owns the facility's Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) program end-to-end. Designs and runs the data system covering feedstock inputs, production outputs, quality measurements, and end-use evidence. Serves as the primary interface with the registry, third-party verifiers, and certification bodies on data submissions and verification cycles. Trains and supports facility staff and Tupande’s field teams on the data discipline and evidence requirements that carbon credit issuance depends on.

Responsibilities

MRV Leadership

  • Design, implement, and manage the facility's MRV system covering feedstock inputs, production outputs, quality measurements, and carbon removal calculations
  • Ensure data collection processes across all shifts are accurate, consistent, and traceable to the carbon standards we report against
  • Oversee and support the Lab and Quality Technicians in their data recording responsibilities to ensure the standard required for verification
  • Develop and maintain data management systems, dashboards, and reporting templates for MRV purposes
  • Stay current on evolving carbon standards, methodology requirements, and MRV best practices in the biochar sector

Audit Readiness

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with third-party verifiers, auditors, and certification bodies during verification cycles.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports required for carbon credit verification
  • Prepare the facility for audits, including documents, site walkthroughs, and evidence for the verifier
  • When auditors flag issues, own the corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) through to closure

Staff Training

  • Train all relevant staff at the facility on MRV data recording requirements and the importance of data integrity
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, and Administration on the completeness and accuracy of the data they record for MRV

Farmer Engagement

  • Develop and maintain training materials for Asili field staff on correct biochar application methods and how to collect evidence that biochar was applied to fields
  • Deliver refresher training to Asili field teams at the start of each season
  • No direct reports

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, Data Science, Engineering, Agronomy, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of combined experience in MRV, sustainability reporting, environmental data management, health and safety compliance, or a related audit and compliance role
  • Strong exposure to compliance, audit, or regulatory environments (OSHA, HSSE, ISO, or comparable) is a strong advantage, even in a candidate less experienced in carbon markets specifically
  • Familiarity with carbon standards (e.g, Isometric, Puro.earth, EBC, IBI) or carbon credit methodologies is a plus but not required; successful candidates will build this expertise on the job, supported by Tupande's carbon partners
  • Strong data management, reporting, and analytical skills
  • Experience with data management platforms, spreadsheets, or environmental monitoring software
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to data integrity and traceability

Sobre One Acre Fund - Kenya

One Acre Fund is a non-profit social enterprise that supplies financing and training to help smallholders grow their way out of hunger and build lasting pathways to prosperity. When farmers improve their harvests, they pull themselves out of poverty. They also start producing surplus food for their neighbors. When farmers prosper, they eradicate poverty and hunger in their communities.

One Acre Fund is growing quickly and we are proud to soon represent Africa’s largest network of smallholder farmers. By 2020, we will serve at least 1 million farm families - with more than 5 million people living in those families.  And the farmers we serve will produce enough surplus food to feed another 5 million of their neighbors.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. When millions of farmers speak with one voice, we can more effectively pursue collaboration together with government and the private sector to broaden our reach.

One Acre Fund began in Kenya and is now one of our largest and fastest-growing countries of operation. Our vision for 2030 is to end hunger in Kenya and provide a pathway to prosperity for every farm family in the nation. One Acre Fund Kenya is transitioning from a start-up to a mature operation – and we need additional high performing staff members to continue our strong growth trajectory. Working with our Kenya team presents the opportunity to build upon our strong operational foundations and explore new ways to impact our well-established network of hundreds of thousands of farm families.

We are growing quickly. In ten years, the Kenya program has grown to serve over 360,000+ farm families with more than 3,000+ full-time field staff. Our approach has won widespread validation, winning grants from The MasterCard Foundation and Gates Foundation.

Our work centers in the western region of Kenya and we have a pilot in Nyeri, Kenya. Our Kenya country office is located in Kakamega, Kenya.
