About Sankofa Montessori

Sankofa Montessori embarked on its educational journey as a public charter school, receiving its charter from the Georgia State Charter Schools Commission in 2021. We officially opened our doors in July 2023, starting our adventure with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. As we chart our course, we added 3rd grade in our second year, 4th grade in our third year, and will be adding 5th grade during the upcoming school year, School Year 2026–2027. Our mission is to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and agency needed to lead purposeful lives. Join our team and help us continue to chart our course.

At Sankofa Montessori, we bridge standards-based instruction with the Montessori approach. If you think you would be a great fit, we invite you to apply for our Part-Time Special Education Teacher role for the 2026–2027 school year.

Position Overview

The Part-Time Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction, case management, and consultation services to students with disabilities while ensuring compliance with federal and state special education requirements. This position works collaboratively with the Manager of Student Support Services, classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure every student receives the individualized support needed to thrive.

  • Serve as the case manager for assigned students by developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs in compliance with IDEA, Georgia Department of Education regulations, and school policies.
  • Participate in eligibility, annual review, reevaluation, manifestation determination, and other special education meetings while collaborating with families and multidisciplinary team members.

  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals, collect and analyze data, and use progress monitoring to inform instructional decisions.

  • Support classroom teachers in addressing behavioral, academic, and social-emotional needs through coaching, consultation, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education services.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, IEP implementation, and available supports.
  • Attend required professional development, Student Support Team meetings, and other school meetings consistent with the responsibilities of a part-time special education teacher.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the Student Support Services Department and the mission of Sankofa Montessori.

What Teaching Looks Like at Sankofa Montessori (and How You're Supported)

Teaching at Sankofa Montessori is demanding and deeply purposeful. As a founding school, teachers are asked to do meaningful, high-impact work that challenges the status quo, with real support built into the structure of the day.

Our Special Education Teachers:

  • Deliver specialized instruction that empowers students to access grade-level curriculum.
  • Partner closely with classroom teachers to create inclusive learning environments.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Manager of Student Support Services, related service providers, and instructional staff.
  • Use student data and progress monitoring to drive instructional decisions.
  • Receive coaching, collaboration time, and the resources needed to support student success.
  • Help build a school culture grounded in identity affirmation, restorative practices, and high expectations.

While the work is harder than the status quo, educators are not asked to build in isolation. We believe challenge should be purposeful, supported, and shared—and we invest accordingly.
