About Lokal:

In 2018, we began with a WhatsApp group with a simple hypothesis: people in tier-2/3 towns weren’t really using the internet meaningfully yet. We believed that if we started with local content in their own language, they’d come back every day; once there was a habit and trust, that same space could naturally grow into classifieds and, eventually, something they used for almost everything online.

This spark became Lokal. Our first instinct was to put everything in one place & one app - local updates, classifieds, jobs, matrimony and more. It worked, till it stopped working. Users gave us the insight - when one use case outweighs the others, everything else seems like noise. We listened. Like how Craigslist quietly seeded a generation of focused companies & marketplaces, we began unbundling and verticalising.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Qualitative Research Associate (0–1 years’ experience) to support user research for the GyanTV app, with a strong focus on Hindi‑speaking users. You will help us deeply understand user needs and behaviours and turn insights into clear recommendations for product and business teams

Requirements

Responsibilities:

• Conduct phone‑based user interviews and cold calls with GyanTV users (primarily in Hindi).
• Recruit and screen participants, ensuring the right user segments are represented.
• Analyse qualitative data (call notes, transcripts) to identify patterns, pain points, and opportunities.
• Perform basic competitive benchmarking of similar apps/products and summarise findings.
• Synthesize insights into concise reports, decks, and summaries for internal stakeholders with assistance from the Customer Insights Team.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and business teams to translate insights into action.

What We’re Looking For:

• 0–1 years of experience in qualitative research, UX research, market research preferable but anyone who is open to switching from Sales, HR or any other customer facing role is welcome.
• Strong communication skills and comfort with cold calling and conducting open‑ended conversations.
• Fluency in Hindi and English (spoken and written); any additional Indian language is a plus.
• Not afraid of Data and present clear, actionable insights.
• Basic familiarity with spreadsheets or simple tools for organizing and analysing data.
• High ownership, strong listening skills, and comfort working with cross‑functional stakeholders.
