Job Title: Lead, Environmental Health & Safety
Role Overview
The Lead, Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for implementing and managing Moniepoint's Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental & Social, Fire Safety, and Emergency Preparedness programmes
across offices, warehouses, repair centres, and branches. This is a hands-on operational role
focused on preventing workplace incidents and improving the overall working environment
through effective management of fire safety, incident response, contractor safety, environmental
impact, ergonomics, PPE, road safety, and regulatory compliance.

The role is focused on occupational and physical workplace safety and environmental
compliance for Moniepoint’s facilities and operations, and sits within the Facilities &
Administration function. The HSE Manager will work closely with Moniepoint’s ESG Officer by
implementing operational controls, and driving enterprise HSE initiatives, while the ESG Officer
retains strategy, governance and policy ownership.

Key Responsibilities
Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Programme
● Develop, implement and continually improve the Occupational Health & Safety
Management System (OHSMS) across Moniepoint offices, warehouses, POS repair
centres and branches, in alignment with ISO 45001.
● Conduct routine HSE walk-throughs, safety audits, inspections, and Job Hazard
Analyses (JHAs) across offices, warehouses, existing sites and new branches
● Conduct hazard-specific risk assessments for POS repair centre operations (ESD,
soldering, chemical exposure from flux/solvents, hand-tool use) and warehouse
operations (manual handling, racking and storage safety, loading bay traffic).
● Maintain the OHS risk register and drive timely closure of corrective actions.
● Monthly reporting of HSE performance metrics to Executive Management.
● Operate a permit-to-work system for higher-risk contractor activity during
branch/warehouse projects and developments.
● Maintain HSE oversight for outsourced facility management providers. Conduct periodic
safety audits of contractors, subcontractors, and outsourced facility management
providers engaged on construction/renovation projects, facilities work and logistics
covering safety certifications, PPE compliance, and site conditions, and track their
corrective actions to closure.
● Develop annual HSE objectives and performance targets.
Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness
● Maintain and coordinate implementation of the Emergency Response Plan across
offices, warehouses, repair centres, and other operational locations.
● Coordinate fire drills and ensure emergency response equipment is present, functional
and inspected on schedule at every Moniepoint location.
● Provide HSE input into Business Continuity and Operational Resilience planning.
Incident & Accident Management
● Maintain the incident and accident investigation procedure and register for physical,
facilities-related incidents at Moniepoint locations.
● Carry out root-cause investigations for workplace and facilities-related incidents and
track corrective actions to closure.
● Analyse incident/accident data for trends across Moniepoint locations and use findings
to prioritise prevention efforts rather than reacting incident-by-incident.
● Ensure serious incidents are escalated to Management and the ESG Officer in
accordance with the Incident Escalation Procedure.
● Share lessons learned from investigations with employees and relevant contractors.
PPE, Ergonomics & Facility Safety
● Ensure appropriate PPE is provided for workers at the POS Repair Centers,
warehouses, and other relevant locations.
● Set and monitor office ergonomics standards such as workstation setup, posture, and
break guidance.
● Work with the Facilities and Procurement teams to ensure new site selection and
construction/renovation criteria include fire and life-safety requirements..
● Conduct safety due diligence and a pre-operational safety audit on any new office,
warehouse or branch before handing over and opening for us, and support the ESG
Officer in conducting Environmental & Social due diligence on such sites where required.
● Work with the Security team to provide input to facility-level security risk assessments
where they intersect with physical workplace safety.
Road Safety
● Provide support to develop and implement road safety programmes for employees and
contractors undertaking work-related travel.
● Provide support to assess and mitigate delivery- and installation-specific risks for
Business Relationship Managers and field agents, including manual handling of POS
hardware and lone-working exposure at merchant premises.
OHS & Environmental Compliance, Permitting and Reporting
● Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, including
the Labour Act, Factories Act, NSITF requirements, Fire Service regulations, and other
applicable workplace safety requirements.
● Maintain statutory occupational health and safety records and coordinate renewal of
applicable workplace safety permits and certifications, and statutory inspections
● Monitor and log environmental incidents and non-compliance events at Moniepoint
facilities as part of the environmental compliance programme
● Feed OHSE compliance status into the ESG risk and compliance register maintained by
the ESG Officer.
● Provide facility-level environmental data (electricity consumption, waste volumes, water
use) already collected through Facilities & Administration operations, to inform both
operational decision-making and the ESG Officer's enterprise environmental reporting.
Training and Capacity Building
● Design and deliver relevant OHS training such as first aid, firefighting, fire warden and
evacuation marshal training sufficient to cover Moniepoints locations, offices, repair
centres, and warehouses.
● Coordinate delivery of road safety and personnel safety training with the Learning and
Development, Facilities, and Security teams.

Qualifications and Requirements
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety,
Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
● Experience: 4–6 years of progressive experience in an HSE/OHS role, with a proven
track record managing multi-site operations, warehouses, corporate real estate, or
financial services infrastructure.
● Certifications: Professional certification is required (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, ISO 45001
Lead Implementer/Auditor, CSP, and/or equivalent membership in a recognized safety
body).
● Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Nigerian workplace safety laws (Labour
Act OHS provisions, Factories Act); working familiarity with IFC Performance Standards
2 and 4 OHS requirements is an advantage.
● Skills: Exceptional risk assessment, root-cause analysis, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA),
fire safety and first-aid training delivery, ergonomics assessment, stakeholder
management, and data-driven reporting capabilities.
● Travel: Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Nigeria to audit and support
regional operational sites.
