  1. Job Summary

 

The Nutrition officer will be responsible for supporting health and nutrition activities at the field level, which include Management of acute malnutrition, MIYCAN, Management of small and nutritionally at risk infants under six,(MAMi), Integrated Case Management of Childhood illnesses, and social behavior change and communication. Other key deliverables include supporting capacity-building of VHTS, care group volunteers, health workers and district engagement. He / she will work closely with the WASH and Food security officers to ensure integration of multi sector activities. He/she will Supervise Daily implementation of activities and their contribution towards achieving desired project objectives and results. He/she is the direct interface between Action Against Hunger and communities. He/she is responsible for identification and verification of programme participants, programme monitoring, ensure effective programming, timely programme reporting, and the identification and initial troubleshooting of field level implementation problems.

●        Local governmental and non-governmental partners: exchange of information, coordination, training, supervision, influence on choice of technical options.

●        OPM: Updates and collaboration of implementation, information sharing.

●        Local representatives of international aid organizations: exchange of information

 

Delivery: 

 

  1. Essential Job Duties

(Define main functions/roles and then define the specific/key job duties in each of them).

 

Objective 1: Technical Support

•       Ensure integration of malnutrition management within health service delivery (i.e. at health facilities and in outreaches) and ensuring monthly performance indicators are within acceptable sphere standards

•       Ensure the implementation of MAMi, BFHI,MIYCAN, ICCM, SBCC program at both health facility and community level, ensuring that the right beneficiaries are targeted in the programs

•       Ensure that the capacity of the district health systems to supervise, evaluate, monitor and provide curative approaches against disease and acute malnutrition is strengthened

•       Support the logistical operations for programs at health facilities of operation and in the communities alongside the Program Managers 

•       Oversee that the linkages between community-based health structures for early case identification, referral and management of acute malnutrition, at risk infants and common childhood illnesses are strengthened 

•       Participate in development of relevant project IEC materials and also ensure that such materials are effectively disseminated to targeted beneficiaries

•       Ensure that project staffs collect quality data, utilize and also timely and accurately report the data 

 

Objective 2: Capacity Building .

 

•       In liaison with the PM, organise and supervise all project capacity development activities including refresher training for health workers and district on MIYCAN, MCHN, MAMi and IMAM. Information systems; on-job mentorship sessions for health workers and program staff on IYCF and IMAM; training VHTs, Care Groups and health workers on Care Group activities and regular on job mentorship and support

•       Ensure that health workers and VHTs have necessary capacity development tools and materials

•       Ensure that joint health worker and VHT meetings are conducted on a monthly basis and quarterly basis with the program priority areas addressed during the meeting including sharing achievements, challenges and solutions as well as capacity building for the participants on selected topics according to the capacity needs 

 

Objective 3: Assessment and reporting.

•        Develop monthly and quarterly work plans and ensure that these are adhered to.

•       Participate in all project review assessments, surveys and studies including Monthly & Quarterly donor reports, Action Against Hunger internal reports (Project Activity Reports (APRs), activity reports (meetings, community dialogues and drama shows and any other activity)

•       Support the establishment of a database for community health workers (VHT, Lead mothers, lead fathers & other community structures) and regularly monitor and evaluate their activities 

•       Ensure that stakeholders are sensitized on program accountability and have information on beneficiary feedback mechanism

•       Oversee reporting on project progress, success stories and lessons learned during project implementation

•       Ensure financial management through the timely preparation and submission of cash needs for the program activities and ensure timely payment to beneficiaries.

 

Objective 4: Staff Management & Supervision

•       Ensure that staff under your supervision are effectively engaged in their tasks and perform their duties according to Action Against Hunger expectations

•       Ensure that staff under your supervision develop quarterly activity work plans and adhere to them

•       Identify training needs of staff under your supervision and suggest an appropriate training plan

 

Objective 5:  Coordination & Representation

•       Mobilize communities and community leaders to participate in Action Against Hunger project community activities and organize regular community meetings to address areas for program improvement

•       Participate in internal and external meetings according to the PM guidance

•       Actively participate in events organized in the refugee and host community settings 

•       Attend inter agency meetings and field visits as required by the PM

  1. Supervisory Responsibilities

 

Directly supervises the work of Community Based Facilitators., VHTs and Care group volunteers.

 

  1. Fiscal Responsibility.

Work closely with the program Manager in updating the project BFU in relation to the activity implementation plan on regular basis, ensuring that relevant documentation on nutrition and health             is filed and archived.

  1. Physical Demands

The job requires the incumbent to spend long hours at the health facility and in the community, working with vulnerable groups(Mainly pregnant/lactating mothers and Children under 5 years).

 

  1. Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available           to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.

 

While performing the duties of this job in the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious      settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather             conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.

Requirements

•       Bachelor degree (honors) in Human Nutrition.

•       At least 2 years’ continuous experience implementing Nutrition and Health  activities.

•       You work with a busy multi-sectoral setting/programming is an asset.          

•       Strong communication skills (written and oral) English 

•       Ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions independently 

•       Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations 

•       Excellent reporting skills. 

•       Good knowledge of the local Area, refugee problematic, local context, including being able to speak local language in the districts.

•       Be equipped with IT and Computer knowledge and user skills.

Ability to Ride a motor cycle with a valid riding License.
