What is Head Record-to-Report (R2R)?
Head – Record to Report (R2R) will be responsible for leading the end-to-end financial accounting, general ledger, month-end closing, financial reporting, balance sheet governance, reconciliations, audit support and process improvement activities for various group entities. The role will ensure timely, accurate and controlled financial reporting in line with IFRS, internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
The position reports to Stream Head Finance Operations, and requires strong technical accounting knowledge, process ownership, stakeholder management and the ability to drive financial discipline across multiple accounting and reporting areas.
What does Head Record-to-Report (R2R) do?
1. Financial Accounting and General Ledger Management
· Lead general ledger accounting activities and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
· Ensure accounting entries are posted in line with approved policies, IFRS requirements and internal control standards.
· Review significant accounting entries, manual journals, accruals, provisions, reclassifications and adjustments.
· Ensure proper mapping and usage of chart of accounts and balance sheet codes.
· Review GL balances to identify unusual, long outstanding or incorrectly classified items.
2. Month-End and Period-End Closing
· Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process for assigned R2R areas.
· Ensure close activities are completed within agreed timelines and with required accuracy.
· Monitor closing calendars, dependencies and deliverables across finance and business teams.
· Review closing issues, delayed activities and unresolved reconciling items.
· Ensure timely submission of financial data for management and group reporting.
3. Balance Sheet Governance and Reconciliations
· Ensure monthly reconciliation of balance sheet codes with proper ageing, ownership and action plans.
· Review reconciliations for advances, accruals, provisions, deposits, receivables, payables, bank-related balances, intercompany and other control accounts.
· Identify old, dormant, unsupported or high-risk balances and drive cleanup actions.
· Ensure GL balances are reconciled with sub-ledgers, operational systems and supporting records.
· Maintain strong governance over balance sheet integrity and financial hygiene.
4. Financial Reporting and IFRS Compliance
· Ensure financial reporting is prepared in accordance with IFRS and company accounting policies.
· Support preparation of statutory, management and group reporting requirements.
· Review accounting treatment for complex transactions and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
· Ensure appropriate documentation and support for key accounting judgments and estimates.
· Support implementation of new accounting standards, policy changes and reporting requirements.
5. Audit, Controls and Compliance
· Coordinate with internal and external auditors for R2R-related audit requirements.
· Ensure timely provision of audit schedules, reconciliations and supporting documents.
· Address audit observations and ensure timely closure of agreed action plans.
· Strengthen controls around journal postings, reconciliations, account ownership and financial reporting.
· Ensure compliance with delegation of authority, finance policies and internal control frameworks.
6. Process Improvement and Automation
· Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize and automate R2R processes.
· Support system improvements, ERP enhancements, HFM/group reporting automation and reporting dashboards.
· Drive reduction in manual activities, repeated reconciling items and month-end bottlenecks.
· Work with IT, transformation and business teams to improve data quality and process efficiency.
7. Stakeholder Management
· Work closely with AP, O2C, Treasury, Tax, Corporate Accounting, SCM, HR, IT and Group Reporting teams.
· Coordinate with business owners for resolution of open balances and pending accounting matters.
· Present key R2R updates, risks, delays and action plans to senior finance management.
· Ensure timely escalation of unresolved issues impacting closing, reporting or balance sheet accuracy.
8. Team Leadership
· Lead, guide and develop the R2R team.
· Allocate responsibilities and ensure proper ownership of accounting codes and processes.
· Review team deliverables and provide technical guidance on accounting and reporting matters.
· Build team capability in IFRS, reconciliations, controls, systems and reporting.
· Promote accountability, discipline and continuous improvement within the team.

Requirements
What are we looking for and what does it require to be Head Record-to-Report (R2R)?
· Member of a professional accounting body
· 8–12 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, R2R, financial reporting, audit or finance operations, telecom experience would be added advantage.
· Experience in leading GL, closing, reconciliations, balance sheet review and audit coordination.
· Experience in ERP environment such as SAP / Oracle is preferred.
· Prior experience in a large organization or group reporting structure will be an advantage.
· Deep understanding of IFRS and accounting concepts
· Expertise in monthly closing process and IFRS technical assessments
· Strong business acumen and customer-centric approach
· Experience of working in ERP based environment (Oracle /SAP)
