Purpose of the role

To support business areas with day-to-day processing, reviewing, reporting, trading and issue resolution. 

Accountabilities

  • Support various business areas with day-to-day initiatives including processing, reviewing, reporting, trading, and issue resolution.
  • Collaboration with teams across the bank to align and integrate operational processes.
  • Identification of areas for improvement and providing recommendations in operational processes.
  • Development and implementation of operational procedures and controls to mitigate risks and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Development of reports and presentations on operational performance and communicate findings to internal senior stakeholders.
  • Identification of industry trends and developments to implement best practice in banking operations.
  • Participation in projects and initiatives to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

  • To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Step into the role of Training Manager at Barclays, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the capability and performance of our Financial Crime Screening teams. In this role, you will lead the design, delivery, governance, and continuous improvement of training programmes across Payments Screening, Customer Screening, and Adverse Media operations, supporting colleagues across the UK and India.

You will be responsible for ensuring that training solutions are effective, compliant, and aligned to regulatory expectations, operational requirements, and business objectives. The role holder will work closely with operational leaders, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders to deliver innovative learning solutions that build capability, improve performance, and support a strong risk and control environment.

You will focus on driving learning excellence through robust governance, data-driven decision making, training assurance, and capability development. The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder management, and the ability to operate effectively within a dynamic and highly regulated environment.

You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in role such as:

  • Design, deliver, govern, and continuously improve training programmes in line with learning and development best practice and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead, coach, and develop training professionals and subject matter experts to build capability and drive high performance.

  • Establish and maintain effective training governance, assurance, accreditation, and learning effectiveness frameworks.

  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to identify capability gaps and implement targeted learning interventions.

  • Monitor, analyse, and report training outcomes, providing insights and recommendations to improve learner performance and operational effectiveness.

  • Support the implementation of business, regulatory, and process changes through effective learning and communication strategies.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence across the training function.

Desirable skill set:

  • Operational knowledge of Financial Crime, including Sanctions Screening, Customer Screening, Adverse Media, AML, and Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs).

  • Strong understanding of risk management, governance, controls, and regulatory expectations within Financial Services.

  • Experience supporting audit, assurance, accreditation, or regulatory remediation activities.

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.

  • Experience leading change, transformation, and capability-building initiatives within a regulated environment.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience using learning and performance data to drive business decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, high-performing teams and develop talent through coaching, succession planning, and capability development.
