About this Technical Coordinator - EMS role at ON.energy

ON.energy · Onsite · Mexico City, Mexico City, Mexico

ON.energy is building the backbone of energy and AI infrastructure powering grid-safe data centers and mission-critical facilities. The company supplies and operates hyperscale power systems that solve the toughest resilience challenges, delivering custom solutions for AI data centers, mission-critical facilities, and front-of-the-meter assets. ON recently announced a 5GW partnership, with 3GW currently under construction across multiple hyperscale data center campuses. With patented technology and proprietary software, ON.energy develops projects worldwide that set new benchmarks for resilience.

The EMS team is looking for a Technical Coordinator to support our SCADA development team as they build and maintain our Ignition-based SCADA platform across battery energy storage systems (BESS) and grid-connected assets. This is an entry-level role designed for someone early in their career who wants hands-on exposure to industrial SCADA systems, controls engineering, and energy infrastructure.

You'll work closely with our SCADA Engineers, HMI team, and controls team, helping keep configuration work, documentation, and testing activities organized and on track. This role is a strong stepping stone toward a SCADA Engineer or Controls Engineer career path, with direct mentorship from senior team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist SCADA Engineers with configuring tags, UDTs (User Defined Types), and device connections in Ignition, following established templates and configuration standards.
  • Support point-to-point checkout, alarm validation, and system testing during commissioning activities, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Help maintain accurate and up-to-date SCADA documentation, including tag maps, MQTT topic structures, and configuration standards.
  • Coordinate and track configuration change requests, punch lists, and testing schedules across the HMI and controls teams.
  • Run and support pre-built scripts and tools used for configuration validation, point checkout, and deployment assistance (developed by senior engineers).
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of SCADA and communication issues in development and test environments, escalating more complex issues to senior engineers.
  • Support field commissioning activities as needed, including basic point-to-point verification and issue documentation.
  • Maintain organized records of device connections, tag configurations, and revision history using tools such as Azure DevOps or equivalent.
  • Take notes and track action items during team meetings related to SCADA standards and process improvements.
  • Learn and build knowledge of the Ignition platform and industrial communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus, OPC UA, DNP3) through mentorship and on-the-job training.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience (internships, coursework, or self-directed projects).
  • 0–2 years of professional experience; internship, co-op, or academic exposure to industrial control systems, automation, or SCADA is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to track tasks, documentation, and schedules across multiple teams.
  • Eagerness to learn technical tools and systems, including the Ignition platform (training and mentorship provided).
  • Basic understanding of, or willingness to learn, industrial communication concepts such as MQTT, Modbus, OPC UA, or DNP3.
  • Comfortable following documented procedures and configuration standards with close attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work for both technical and non-technical audiences.

PREFERRED

  • Coursework or project experience involving PLC-based control systems.
  • Interest in or exposure to battery energy storage systems (BESS) or renewable energy assets.
  • Basic familiarity with SQL databases or data tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar work-tracking tools.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus, given cross-functional coordination with regional teams.
