We are LawConnect, the consumer gateway to legal help. Around 74% of people who need legal help never get it – it’s hard to access, hard to find, and expensive. Our AI-powered marketplace changes that: every day, people describe their legal matter on our platform and get connected with the right law firm. We call it legal navigation, and we’re making it accessible to everyone. 

The marketplace is a two-sided system: consumers on one side, law firms on the other. AI isn’t a feature here – it’s how the marketplace operates. It enriches and matches enquiries, prices dynamically, powers firm onboarding and lawyer–consumer collaboration, and makes sure we’re found and cited by AI answer engines, not just ranked by search engines. 

We’re rapidly scaling and about to launch in the UK, with the US to follow. Around 50% of our team are developers and engineers, and we build AI-native: AI is the default way a system works, with people designed in where their judgment matters most.

What you’ll do

Lead the engineering of the LawConnect legal marketplace: the AI-powered platform that connects everyday consumers with the right lawyer, and the growth engine that brings them there. You’ll own the technology behind how legal enquiries are raised, matched, and converted – and the funnel that turns web traffic into successful lawyer–client connections – with AI increasingly at the centre of every step. You’ll be expected to build with AI, not just around it.

To make this happen you will:

• Lead the architecture and delivery of the marketplace end to end: enquiry intake, firm matching, lawyer–consumer collaboration, and the firm-facing experience 

• Own the growth funnel: AI-driven lead enrichment, practice-area matching, dynamic pricing, landing experiences, experimentation, and analytics across SEO, SEM and emerging AI answer-engine channels  

• Own supply onboarding: automated outreach, AI-assisted profile creation, and data enrichment that gets firms live and winning work fast 

• Build the AI harness engineering practice – evals, guardrails, observability, and human-in-the-loop workflows – so AI features ship fast, behave reliably in production, and know when to hand off to a person 

• Build scalable, secure backend services and fast, polished consumer- and firm-facing frontends on serverless-first cloud infrastructure, with infrastructure as code and CI/CD 

• Treat discoverability as an engineering discipline: Core Web Vitals, structured data, crawlability, and content that search engines rank and AI answer engines cite 

• Set the technical standards, processes, and operating rhythm for the team, raising the bar through code review, mentoring, and example 

• Shape the team beyond the code: goal planning, strategy discussions, and performance management alongside the Director of Engineering 

What you’ll bring

You’re a curious, self-driven engineer who wants to build meaningful technology with;

• 8+ years of professional full-stack experience, with a track record of driving deliveries as a hands-on tech lead 

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js or other modern frameworks 

• Strong experience in system design, database architecture, and API development 

• Experience with generative AI, automation workflows, or agent-based systems 

• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and serverless architectures (such as AWS Lambda), including infrastructure as code and CI/CD 

• Proven ability to lead a team while staying hands-on: code review, mentoring, unblocking others, and contributing to goal setting and performance management 

• Excellent communication skills, including working directly with senior leadership 

Even better if you have

• Experience two-sided marketplaces, e-commerce or high-traffic consumer platforms 

• Growth engineering (SEO/SEM, web performance, A/B testing, analytics tooling such as GA4).
