About this Senior Quality Engineer role at Corto Pty Ltd
About CORTO
We are CORTO, a cutting-edge software company dedicated to revolutionising the legal industry. Our mission is to empower legal practitioners with AI-driven solutions that streamline their workflow, boost productivity, and provide more efficient client service.
Our team of AI experts and engineers collaborate to develop intelligent software tailored to the unique needs of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Our innovative AI solutions automate routine tasks, simplify document management, and enhance decision-making, allowing legal professionals to focus on what they do best—providing expert legal counsel.
We've rapidly scaled over the last 6 months from 80 to 225+ employees, with a highly technical workforce where around 90% of the team are developers and engineers. This role joins our Quality Engineering function remotely from the US, working closely with our Sydney-based QE team and our growing group of US-based engineers. If you're smart, caring, and ambitious, you'll be in great company.
About the role
This is a newly created, fully remote Senior Quality Engineer role based on the US West Coast. You'll work the same way our Sydney-based QEs do – using our existing tooling, contributing to our shared team repos, and working toward the same team goals – while also partnering closely with our US-based engineers to help assure the quality of the products their team ships. These span from established platform products to AI-powered legal tools – so alongside classic test engineering, you'll be assuring quality for systems built on LLMs, where testing means more than pass/fail assertions.
Because your hours extend past the end of the AU working day and week, you'll also help pick up and progress testing that the Sydney team hasn't had time to finish – making you an important bridge between the two regions.
What you'll do
- Design, implement, and maintain test automation frameworks across web, API, and mobile products, using CORTO's existing tooling and contributing to shared team repositories and goals
- Pick up and progress testing left outstanding at the end of the AU team's day or week, providing continuity across time zones
- Contribute to up-skilling team members through workshops, training, and paired programming sessions, in remote-friendly formats
- Perform code reviews to ensure compliance with established test frameworks
- Execute regression, smoke, and exploratory test cycles across the products
- Take an active role in QE process improvements, helping increase quality and efficiency in AI application delivery
- Work closely with developers and DevOps to support CI/CD pipelines and quality gates
- Communicate clearly and proactively across regions and time zones, keeping AU and US stakeholders aligned
What you’ll bring
- Strong hands-on experience with automated testing across APIs, web, and/or mobile platforms
- Proficiency in programming languages: Python, TypeScript
- Experience working with AI for testing and/or testing AI-based systems (e.g. LangSmith for LLM evaluation)
- Confidence working with modern CI/CD workflows and version control
- Experience testing backend systems, APIs, and data-heavy applications
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)
- Ability to work effectively in fast-changing, loosely structured environments
- A track record of delivering in a high-paced environment while working remotely
- Comfort with cross-regional communication between QE and other teams, working asynchronously across time zones
- A genuine interest in working toward team efficiency and shared goals, not just your own workstream
Even better if you have
- Exposure to non-functional testing (performance, load, reliability)
You are the type of person who
- Takes initiative and thrives in ambiguous, evolving environments
- Has strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Cares deeply about product quality and team collaboration
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Is a self-motivated learner who enjoys continuous improvement
- Has passion for coaching and uplifting other team members to ensure systems meet quality standards
- Is comfortable being a remote member of a primarily in-office/hybrid team, and takes ownership of staying connected
CORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application.
Location
This role is fully remote, based on the US West Coast (e.g. Bay Area).
