Structural Steel Field Surveyor
Location: Maryland or Virginia — Field-Based

Starting Pay: $30/hour, with higher pay available based on experience
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Field Surveyor to support structural steel work throughout the Mid-Atlantic. This field-based position focuses on accurate site measurements, structural layout, alignment, and installation support. Regular travel to active construction sites is required.
Responsibilities
Collect field measurements and survey data using professional surveying equipment.
Establish building control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions.
Check elevations, embed alignment, and structural orientation.
Prepare as-built drawings and related field documentation.
Support steel erection by verifying proper alignment and placement.
Coordinate with other trades to maintain structural accuracy and plumbness.
Assist with installation of structural and miscellaneous metals, including stairs and shafts.
Use Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office for field and documentation tasks.
Follow and promote safe work practices on every job site.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in structural steel erection or field surveying.
Experience with surveying slopes, grades, and layouts for structural and miscellaneous metals.
Proficiency with a total station or similar surveying equipment.
Working knowledge of AISC standards for building alignment and orientation.
Willingness to travel regularly to job sites throughout the region.
Comfortable working at heights, including aerial lifts and elevated steel floors.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate work.
Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively with onsite teams.
