About this Senior Technical Product Manager, Data Connectivity role at Datavant
Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare. Guided by our mission to make the world’s health data secure, accessible and actionable, we provide critical data solutions for organizations across the healthcare ecosystem - including providers, health plans, researchers, and life sciences companies. From fulfilling a single patient’s request for their medical records to powering the AI revolution in healthcare, Datavanters are building the future of how data is connected and used to improve health.
By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a driven and highly collaborative team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare.
About the Team
The Data Connectivity team builds the products and technical foundations that enable healthcare organizations to securely connect and use data across organizations, workflows, and technology ecosystems while preserving privacy and trust.
At the center of this portfolio is a highly technical foundation spanning core data connectivity engines and SDKs, shared services, APIs, authentication, configuration, observability, and infrastructure. These components power the products and integrations our customers use across Datavant-owned applications, cloud and data platforms, and other healthcare workflows.
As our portfolio grows, we're investing in making these foundations increasingly reusable, scalable, reliable, and easy for other teams and products to build upon. We're also exploring how these foundations should evolve for an AI-native future—including making Data Connectivity capabilities easier for AI applications and agents to consume and using AI to materially improve how we build, test, operate, and evolve complex technical systems.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to own the product strategy and evolution of the core technical foundations that power Datavant's Data Connectivity portfolio. You'll work closely with Engineering across our core engines, SDKs, APIs, shared services, and infrastructure—turning new capabilities and technical innovations into stable, reusable functionality that can be delivered across products and deployment models.
AI will be an important part of this evolution. You'll help determine how our APIs, SDKs, services, and developer experiences should evolve for AI-enabled and agentic consumption, while identifying opportunities to leverage AI across software development, testing, automation, observability, and operational workflows.
This role sits at an important intersection of Product and Engineering. You'll need enough technical depth to engage meaningfully in architectural discussions and identify opportunities for reuse, scalability, and simplification—while maintaining a strong product perspective on customer value, priorities, and investment tradeoffs.
You won't be expected to design the architecture or manage Engineering. You'll partner closely with senior engineers and Engineering leadership, bringing clarity to what problems we should solve, why they matter, what requirements and outcomes solutions need to satisfy, and where we should invest.
In This Role, You Will
- Own product strategy, roadmap, and prioritization for core Data Connectivity engines, SDKs, APIs, shared services, and related technical foundations.
- Translate customer, product, and internal developer needs into clear technical product requirements and priorities.
- Productize new capabilities and technical innovations into stable, reusable functionality that downstream products and integrations can consume.
- Drive the evolution of SDKs and APIs with a focus on usability, stability, extensibility, backward compatibility, and developer experience.
- Partner deeply with Engineering to simplify architecture and duplication, manage technical dependencies, and create leverage across products and delivery modalities.
- Evolve Data Connectivity interfaces and technical foundations for AI-enabled and agentic workflows, while identifying and measuring high-value applications of AI across developer tooling, software delivery, testing, observability, automation, and operations.
- Shape shared services spanning areas such as authentication, configuration, observability, usage measurement, reliability, and deployment foundations.
- Balance investments across new capabilities, scalability, reliability, security, technical modernization, AI enablement, and existing customer needs.
- Partner with Privacy, Security, Compliance, and Engineering to ensure technical foundations meet Datavant's privacy and security requirements.
- Define measurable outcomes for technical investments, including reliability, performance, developer productivity, reuse, and speed of product delivery.
- Determine when emerging technical innovations are ready to transition from experimentation into production, bringing structure and product judgment while Engineering owns technical implementation and architectural decisions.
- Contribute to the broader Data Connectivity strategy and help shape how its technical foundations evolve as the portfolio grows.
About You
- You have 7+ years of experience in Product Management, Technical Product Management, Engineering, or a similarly technical product role, with demonstrated ownership of complex technical products.
- You have strong technical fluency and can engage meaningfully with engineers on APIs, SDKs, distributed systems, services, infrastructure, data architecture, and system design.
- You have experience building, managing, and evolving SDKs, APIs, developer tools, shared services, infrastructure, or other reusable technical products, including products whose users may be developers or other product teams.
- You are a systems thinker who understands how decisions in one part of a technical ecosystem affect downstream products, users, and teams.
- You are curious and pragmatic about AI. You actively use and evaluate emerging AI tools, understand where they can materially improve technical products and engineering workflows, and distinguish durable value from technology for technology's sake.
- You understand the boundary between Product and Engineering: you provide clarity on problems, outcomes, priorities, and tradeoffs while partnering with Engineering on how those problems are technically solved.
- You are excellent at translating complex technical concepts into clear product decisions and communicating them to technical and non-technical audiences.
- You are highly organized and comfortable operating in ambiguity, bringing structure and momentum to complex technical initiatives with significant dependencies and evolving requirements.
- You are proactive and independent, exercising sound judgment and making thoughtful recommendations with incomplete information.
- You care about quality, reliability, security, and maintainability—not simply shipping new functionality.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience as a software engineer, data engineer, solutions architect, or other hands-on technical role.
- Experience building AI-enabled technical products or applying AI to developer workflows, software development, testing, observability, automation, or technical operations.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, CI/CD, observability, authentication/authorization, or infrastructure automation.
- Experience with data-intensive or privacy-sensitive products, particularly in healthcare or life sciences.
- Familiarity with cryptography, identity resolution, privacy-preserving technologies, or healthcare data connectivity.
- Experience modernizing complex technical systems while maintaining backward compatibility and existing customer commitments.
Why Join This Team?
Data Connectivity is foundational to how healthcare organizations responsibly use data together. The quality of the underlying technical foundation directly affects how quickly Datavant can innovate, how reliably customers can use our products, and how easily new capabilities can reach the market.
You'll have meaningful ownership of the technical products at the center of that system, working with experienced engineers and domain experts to translate emerging innovations into production capabilities and build foundations that create leverage across a growing portfolio. You'll also help define what an AI-native technical foundation for trusted healthcare data connectivity should look like—from how our capabilities are exposed to AI applications and agents to how AI changes the way complex systems are built, tested, operated, and improved.
As the Data Connectivity organization evolves, you'll have the opportunity to shape not just individual technical products, but how Datavant builds and scales Data Connectivity for the future.
