Salesforce Engineer

Permanent, Full Time

(Hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office)

About the Team

Our Technology team keeps PPL’s systems, tools and digital services running smoothly & securely so everyone can do their best work. With a cloud first strategy and increasingly using AI capabilities to develop and support the platforms we rely on to run our business.  Their work helps ensure PPL stays secure, efficient and ready for the future.

What you’ll be doing:

As Salesforce Engineer, you’ll sit within the Technology function and play an important role in supporting, enhancing and developing PPL’s highly customised Salesforce platform. This is a great opportunity to combine technical expertise with a strong customer focus, helping us get the best from Salesforce and deliver solutions that make a real difference to how PPL operates.

We’re looking for a self-motivated Salesforce specialist who brings strong technical capability, curiosity and a flexible, can-do approach. You’ll be confident translating business needs into practical technical solutions and comfortable building trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

You’ll champion the effective use of Salesforce at PPL, working with Lightning components, configuration changes, data management, Apex, Einstein & other AI technologies. You’ll also contribute to an environment built around source-controlled code, structured processes and automated delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Produce clear, practical documentation that enables other developers to support, maintain and enhance systems effectively.
  • Act as a key point of contact for discussions about new solution requirements between the business and Technology.
  • Support the development, deployment and ongoing improvement of systems and applications.
  • Analyse, document, review and follow structured processes and procedures, including configuration management, version control, coding, testing and documentation standards.
  • Research and recommend new tools, techniques and approaches that could improve how solutions are delivered, including the use of AI.
  • Represent the needs of business users by delivering effective solutions that meet approved specifications, agreed standards and wider business objectives.
  • Act as a Salesforce subject matter expert, championing & maximising the value of the platform and advising on how it can best support business requirements.
  • Use Salesforce capabilities appropriately, prioritising declarative and configuration-led solutions over customisation where possible.

Key requirements:

  • At least five years’ hands-on Salesforce development experience, with expertise in scalable solutions using Apex, Lightning Components (LWC and Aura), SOQL and Salesforce APIs.
  • Strong knowledge of Salesforce architecture and development best practices, including Apex, asynchronous processing, governor limits, bulkification, transaction management, data modelling, large data volumes and appropriate use of Flow.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce integration patterns, including REST/SOAP APIs, Named Credentials, Platform Events, asynchronous processing and event-driven integrations.
  • Experience across a mature software development lifecycle, including Git, branching and pull requests, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment planning and multi-environment Salesforce releases; proficiency with Salesforce CLI and Salesforce DX project structures.
  • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into well-designed Salesforce solutions, identifying risks, dependencies and suitable technical approaches.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, explaining technical concepts to varied audiences, contributing to solution design and working effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • A flexible, self-motivated and resilient approach, with the ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and take ownership of problem solving.
