PURPOSE
• This role performs life and medical underwriting assessment and service support activities in CTC under Hong Kong underwriting governance.
• The role applies approved underwriting guidelines and delegated authority to deliver accurate, timely and compliant case decisions, while supporting consistent service quality across the offshore operation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Assess medical and non-medical life insurance applications and make underwriting decisions within delegated authority and approved guidelines.

• Review case information, identify missing or inconsistent evidence, and request or follow up on additional requirements needed for assessment.

• Process assigned cases within agreed service level and turnaround time standards, while maintaining case documentation and decision accuracy.

• Escalate complex, exceptional, high-risk or out-of-authority cases to the Underwriting Manager or designated Hong Kong underwriting authority.

• Handle underwriting enquiries from internal distribution and service channels, providing clear case status and requirement explanations within approved protocols.

• Comply with underwriting governance, confidentiality, AML/CTF controls, information security requirements and applicable operating procedures.

• Identify recurring case, workflow or system issues and contribute observations and data to quality improvement, training and approved enhancement initiatives.

• Support knowledge sharing, calibration and ad hoc underwriting assignments as directed by the line manager.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• Case turnaround time and achievement of agreed SLA.

• Underwriting decision accuracy, consistency and documentation quality.

• Compliance with delegated authority, guidelines and control requirements.

• Productivity and timely management of assigned case inventory.

• Quality of enquiry handling and stakeholder service.

EXTERNAL & INTERNAL CONTACTS

• CTC Underwriting Manager and underwriting colleagues.

• Hong Kong Underwriting, Distribution, New Business, Operations and relevant risk or compliance partners.

• Approved medical, reinsurer or service-provider contacts where required by established process.

DECISION MAKING

• Make underwriting assessments and decisions within delegated authority and approved guidelines.

• Determine routine additional evidence or case requirements in accordance with established underwriting rules.

• Prioritise assigned workload to meet service and quality requirements.

• Identify and escalate cases involving complexity, exceptions, heightened risk or authority limits.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• University graduate or above; professional insurance or underwriting qualification such as FLMI, or equivalent, is preferred.

• Minimum 3 years of solid experience in life and medical insurance underwriting.

• Practical experience in medical and non-medical case assessment and underwriting decision-making.

KNOWLEDGE & TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Sound knowledge of life and medical underwriting principles, guidelines, evidence evaluation and risk assessment.

• Working knowledge of delegated authority, case escalation, confidentiality, AML/CTF and relevant operational controls.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret medical, financial and non-medical information.

• Good written and spoken English and Chinese.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ability to work with underwriting workflow systems.
