About this MS MM Student Assistant role at The New School
The Media Management Student Assistant will support an academic program within the university by providing essential administrative, communications, and event support. Reporting to the Program Administrator or Program Director, depending on assignment, the Student Assistant will play a key role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, supporting students and faculty, and creating and contributing to public-facing communications. The successful candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, able to complete assigned tasks independently, and comfortable balancing administrative tasks with creative and interpersonal work in a fast-paced academic environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with administrative correspondence, record keeping, and maintenance of program databases in an accurate and timely manner
Serve as a liaison with students, faculty, alumni, and external guests by responding to inquiries and sharing information professionally and courteously
Support the planning, coordination, and execution of program-related events, including preparing materials, tracking logistics, and assisting during events as needed
Contribute to program communications by drafting and scheduling content for social media, including maintaining and updating the program’s LinkedIn page
Assist with preparation of the spring semester Capstone brochure, including content coordination, proofreading, and production support
Support the development and distribution of the program’s weekly newsletter, including content collection, formatting, and scheduling
Perform general administrative support tasks as needed to support program operations
Complete assigned projects and tasks independently while communicating progress, questions, and needs in a timely manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled as a student at The New School
Interest in urbanism, design justice, community-based work, or sustainability
Strong organizational and time-management skills and the capacity to think strategically and to effectively move ideas forward into implementation
Ability to communicate effectively on multiple levels across the organization
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
Familiarity with LinkedIn, Instagram, and social media content creation and management
Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Suite) preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interest in urbanism, design justice, community-based work, or sustainability
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
Preferred experience or skills in one or more of the following areas: photography, filming/video production, graphic design, social media, marketing, or journalism.
Experience creating social media content and campaigns.
WORK MODE
On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on campus during regularly scheduled work hours because the work cannot be performed remotely without being infeasible or not in the best interest of the organization. #LI-DNI
Work hours are not fixed and may vary from week to week based on program needs. Student Assistants will support events taking place throughout the semester and should have some flexibility in their availability to accommodate scheduled program events.
Hourly Rate: $18 per hour
