We have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the frontline, creating, developing and industrialising manufacturing processes to deliver new products.  You would be responsible for ensuring manufacturability of new products and be familiar with “Design for Manufacture/Assembly”. You will also be required to interact and manage relationships across various different functions internally and externally, ranging from design teams within the IPT, to suppliers and onto directly influencing the customer and their requirements. You will also have experience of Technology Development and Product Introduction methodologies such as Advanced Product Quality Planning and Production Part Approval Process and will be working with internal and external suppliers to create, define and implement several methods of manufacture.

  • Supplier development / supplier capability assessments
  • Experience setting up a new factory, designing layouts, specifying machines
  • Design for Manufacture / Design for Assembly
  • Experience in Aerospace relevant manufacturing processes (Forging, Casting, Additive, Composite, Fabrication, complex machining etc.)
  • Inspection and quality processes experience

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will get the chance to:

  • Create, develop, implement, validate, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing/assembly processes, digital systems and/or methods of manufacture which are capable of meeting and continue to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time.
  • Ensure that new manufacturing processes and materials are in full compliance to Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm Programme.
  • Develop and influence design and manufacturing requirements, through manufacturing trials and working concurrently with many internal and external stakeholders, including the design function, the supply chain and the customer.
  • Work with an extensive supply chain, and subject matter experts to ensure all manufacturing processes are developed in a manner that meets the business needs of Rolls-Royce, (including taking, Safety, Cost, Quality, Delivery and People into consideration) to enable processes to be integrated to a Rolls-Royce site, if required.
  • Manage budgets, resource and technical content to deliver internal capability, in-line with programme requirements, and present progress reports to key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for self-development to meet the required competencies for the role.  Provides coaching and technical support to others within their area of competence.

Who we are looking for:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in Aerospace Manufacturing (or an equivalent regulated industry) and process development methodologies (e.g. Advanced Product Quality Planning).
  • General awareness of Manufacturing Systems and enabling software tools used to develop and analyse manufacturing processes (e.g. CAD/CAM, Statistical Process Control).
  • Experience/interest in supporting Design for Manufacturing, Cost & Innovation workshops and ability to actively contribute.
  • Innovative, curious, able to perceive ambiguity as an opportunity for impact rather than a problem and willing to stand in the minority to achieve the optimum value solution.
  • Cross functional collaboration, effective communication style, capable of interfacing with a wide range of disciplines at all levels and active stakeholder engagement.
  • Good English written and spoken. Knowledge of German is an asset.
