About this Lead, People Business Partner role at HighlightTA
About ChargeLab
ChargeLab is the Android of EV charging. We partner with leading hardware manufacturers like Eaton, ABB, and Siemens to bundle their EV chargers with our best-in-class software. Our end customers include building owners, convenience stores, utilities, and fleets, who leverage our Charging Station Management System (CSMS) and open APIs to manage thousands of EV chargers more efficiently.
By 2030, most vehicles sold in North America will be electric. ChargeLab has raised US $30 million to build the world's best software for managing large-scale EV charger networks. Today, we are a team of 60+ full-time employees, including 30+ in engineering and product development.
About the Role
As ChargeLab's Lead, People Business Partner, you'll play a key role in shaping the people strategy behind our growth. You'll partner directly with executives and team leaders across the company, championing culture, driving performance, and building the programs that make ChargeLab one of the best places to work as we scale.
You'll draw on your background in HR strategy and business partnering to advise leadership on total compensation, policy, performance management, and employee experience — helping ChargeLab's team grow as fast and as well as the company itself. You'll work hybrid out of our Etobicoke office 3 days per week, with direct access to our executive team, including the CEO, CTO, and VP-level leaders.
What You'll Do
Partner with leadership on total compensation philosophy, ensuring it stays fair, equitable, and competitive as we scale.
Collaborate with leadership to build programs and policies — remote work, in-person gatherings, leaves, harassment training, D&I initiatives (in partnership with Talent Acquisition), and beyond — that unlock top performance and align with ChargeLab's values.
Own and evolve the employee handbook, and advise on organizational compliance across federal, provincial, state, and local employment matters as we grow across jurisdictions.
Design and implement people processes that scale with ChargeLab's stage of growth.
Design the ChargeLab employee experience end-to-end — onboarding, career development, performance management, and offboarding.
Partner directly with managers on coaching, difficult conversations, and performance management.
Develop a strong pulse on company culture and morale, building listening posts and leading indicators to catch issues early.
Partner with the exec team to champion cross-functional initiatives that shape culture and values.
Qualifications
5+ years of people/HR experience, with at least 1–2 years in a senior or leadership capacity, and a track record of getting things done
Proven track record of strategic partnership with business leaders on multi-year, org-wide people initiatives
Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices across Canada and the US
Experience partnering with PEOs or outsourced employment providers
Excellent writing and presentation skills — able to communicate clearly at every level of the org
Discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
Ability to work autonomously, be a team player, self-motivated, and influential
Degree in human resources or a related field
Experience in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment a plus
