The Arc of Ocean County is seeking dependable, compassionate team members to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the hours when the day winds down and personal time begins. As a Full-Time Evening Direct Support Professional, you'll help individuals navigate evening routines, enjoy meaningful activities, connect with their communities, and build greater independence.
This role is about much more than completing a checklist. You'll share meals, support personal goals, encourage choice and self-direction, participate in outings, and help create a comfortable home environment where each person can feel respected and empowered. Whether you're starting a career in human services or bringing related experience to a purpose-driven workplace, paid training and ongoing support are available to help you succeed.
Position at a Glance
- Employment Type: Full-Time (40 Hours Per Week)
- Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Schedule Requirement: Flexibility to work two weekend days as part of your schedule
- Starting Pay: $20.70 per hour
- Earning Opportunity: Up to $24.70 per hour through shift differentials and overtime
- Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly
Your Impact During the Evening
Supporting Independence at Home
- Provide direct support in residential group homes, supervised apartments, and supported living programs during evening routines and daily living activities.
- Assist with meal preparation, medication support, household tasks, personal care, and transportation needs.
- Encourage healthy habits and routines that help individuals strengthen independence, personal responsibility, and confidence.
Creating Connection and Community
- Encourage participation in recreation, community outings, shopping trips, and other social activities.
- Support individuals as they work toward goals established through their individualized service plans, recognizing and celebrating their accomplishments along the way.
- Foster a welcoming home environment in which individuals are treated with dignity and encouraged to make their own choices.
Maintaining Quality, Safety, and Continuity
- Keep residential settings clean, safe, and inviting.
- Complete electronic documentation, daily service notes, and other required program records accurately.
- Follow agency policies, medication procedures, and safety protocols while delivering person-centered supports.
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors to promote consistent care and support.
Working as One Residential Services Team
- Collaborate with Residential Services colleagues to provide dependable, compassionate assistance.
- Contribute to a culture centered on dignity, inclusion, growth, and respect.
- Help individuals develop practical skills that support greater independence and fuller participation in their communities.
Start With Training—Grow With Purpose
Previous human services experience is not required. The Arc of Ocean County provides paid training and ongoing support so new team members can develop the skills needed for the role. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is welcomed, but it is not required.
This position can also provide a path toward continued professional growth, with opportunities to advance into leadership positions such as Assistant Manager and Group Home Manager.
Requirements
What You Bring
Required
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Demonstrated employment stability, including at least one year with a previous employer, is preferred.
