Position Summary

The Community Nurse Mentor – Cervical Cancer Prevention & Treatment will be a key member of the Clinical Mentorship and Capacity Building Team, with primary responsibility for clinical mentorship, coaching, supportive supervision, and capacity strengthening of Ministry of Health (MoH) healthcare providers delivering cervical cancer prevention and treatment services.

The position will work closely with District CECAP Coordinators and facility teams to assess provider and facility performance, identify competency and service delivery gaps, provide targeted mentorship, and support continuous quality improvement (CQI). The Community Nurse Mentor will promote high-quality, client-centred cervical cancer services while strengthening the capacity of MoH teams to sustain improved performance.

Limited direct clinical service provision may be undertaken for clinical demonstration, competency development, or short-term gap-filling support.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Mentorship & Capacity Building: Provide structured clinical mentorship, coaching, and on-the-job support to MoH CECAP providers to strengthen competencies and improve the quality of cervical cancer screening and treatment services.
  • Performance & Quality Improvement: Assess provider and facility performance, identify gaps and root causes, and support teams to implement data-driven CQI interventions and sustainable solutions.
  • Service Delivery & Referral Strengthening: Support high-quality cervical cancer service delivery and strengthen referral and linkage systems for women requiring further investigation, treatment, and specialized care.
  • Programme Support & Reporting: Support district and facility teams with planning, data use, service readiness, documentation, and timely reporting to improve programme performance.

Key Deliverables

  • Improved provider competency: Mentored providers demonstrate improved clinical knowledge, skills, and confidence in CECAP service delivery.
  • Improved service quality: Supported facilities demonstrate improved quality and performance in cervical cancer screening, treatment, documentation, and referral.
  • CQI implementation: Priority facilities implement and monitor targeted CQI interventions to address identified performance gaps.
  • Strengthened data use: Facility teams use programme data to identify gaps, prioritize actions, and monitor performance.
  • Timely reporting and follow-up: Mentorship activities, performance gaps, action plans, and follow-up actions are documented and reported within agreed timelines.

Requirements

  • Professional Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Community Health Nursing, Nursing and Midwifery, or a related nursing qualification, with valid professional registration.
  • Relevant Experience: At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in cervical cancer prevention, screening, treatment, reproductive health, or a related field, with demonstrated competency in VIA screening and thermal coagulation.
  • Clinical Mentorship & Coaching: Demonstrated experience in clinical mentorship, coaching, supportive supervision, or healthcare provider capacity strengthening, with the ability to assess competency gaps, provide constructive feedback, and support sustained improvement.
  • Technical & Quality Improvement Skills: Strong knowledge of cervical cancer prevention and treatment guidelines, referral pathways, data use, and CQI, with the ability to identify performance gaps and support practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and teamwork skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with healthcare providers, district teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Planning & Accountability: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver quality work within agreed timelines.
  • Additional Requirements: Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness and ability to travel frequently to rural and hard-to-reach health facilities.
  • The position is primarily field-based and requires frequent travel to supported health facilities, including rural and hard-to-reach areas.
  • The role may involve long-distance travel, challenging road conditions, and occasional extended working hours in response to programme requirements.
