Position Overview:

Pension & Benefits Coordinator

Location: Edmonton, AB | Permanent Full-Time

Are you passionate about helping employees navigate benefits and pension programs while delivering exceptional service? Finning Canada is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Pension & Benefits Coordinator to play a key role in supporting the employee experience across the organization.

In this role, you'll be the trusted point of contact for pension and benefits inquiries, ensuring employees receive timely, accurate support while maintaining the integrity of our benefits and pension programs. Working closely with HR, Payroll, benefit carriers, and business leaders, you will help administer programs, manage data accuracy, support employee recognition initiatives, and contribute to a positive and engaging workplace experience.

What You'll Do

Benefits & Pension Administration

  • Administer employee benefits and pension programs throughout the employee lifecycle, including new hires, qualifying life events, job changes, leaves, retirements, and terminations.

  • Audit and maintain benefits and pension records within Workday to ensure data accuracy and compliance.

  • Guide employees through enrollment processes, coverage options, eligibility requirements, and program changes.

  • Support ongoing system enhancements, updates, and testing activities related to benefits administration.

Data Management, Reporting & Compliance

  • Conduct regular audits of pension and benefits data, contributions, premium arrears, and eligibility records.

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in partnership with Payroll, HR teams, and external providers.

  • Generate reports and coordinate data updates to maintain program integrity and compliance.

  • Manage electronic and physical employee records, including file retrieval, archiving, and retention activities.

Employee & Vendor Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee pension and benefits inquiries through email, phone, and other communication channels.

  • Provide clear guidance on plan coverage, eligibility, policies, and processes.

  • Partner with carriers, vendors, HR, Payroll, and Disability Management teams to resolve issues and improve employee outcomes.

  • Support employees and families through sensitive situations, including disability and life insurance claims.

Rewards, Recognition & Employee Perks

  • Coordinate Finning's employee recognition and service award programs.

  • Manage gift card distribution, service awards, employee communications, and vendor coordination.

  • Support employee perks and discount programs, maintaining internal postings and collaborating with vendors and stakeholders on new offerings.

  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance employee engagement and recognition across the organization.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • 2-4 years of experience in benefits administration, pension administration, HR operations, or a related area.

  • Knowledge of pension and benefits legislation, policies, and administration practices.

  • Experience supporting employees within a unionized environment is considered an asset.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.

  • Experience working with Workday or other HRIS platforms is preferred.
