Job Description

As an Automation Co-Op Student, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in the design and validation of next generation technologies and automated systems for the Joint Replacement business. These innovative systems will transform the manufacturing process for our power brand hip stems. This role will support the Test Lab as they bring new technologies and automated systems to site.

Tasks and responsibilities may include:

Technical Competencies: 

  • Under supervision, the intern will assist in the following areas to support the design, development, and verification of new automated processes.
  • Concept Design & Evaluation: Contribute to designing systems and evaluating their performance through systematic testing.
  • Executing POP’s (Proof of Principles): Collaborate with vendors and perform hands-on testing to verify performance.
  • Generation of Validation documentation
  • Assist in Detailed Design Reviews

   Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support problem-solving and root cause analysis to identify and evaluate potential solutions against defined requirements.
  • Conduct research and studies to support innovative system design.
  • Process Optimisation

General Responsibilities:

  • With supervision, work with vendors, Quality, Operations, EHS, Maintenance and Project Management to ensure project success.
  • Performs testing on medical device products and components using automated, semi-automated and manual methods.
  • Creation and Participation in Risk Assessments, PFMEA, Control Plan’s, SOP’s associated with introduction of new automated processes 

  • Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.
  • Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learn while gaining experience.
  • Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work.
  • Build stable relationships with key stakeholders
  • Is an expert in test method development and an SME in multiple key areas within the test lab.
  • Contribute to the project as a team member.
  • Evaluates variable data and can understand and articulate attributes of product and component performance.

What you will need:

  • Studying / completed a Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics or related discipline.

Fundamental Knowledge:

  • Understanding / Experience with Automated systems, robotics, vision systems, PLC etc. an advantage
  • Experience in executing complex problem solving techniques related to manufacturing/design technical issues. Good instincts and sound judgement for mechanical and structural design. 
  • Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), related statistical tools and validation/verification techniques. 
  • Analytical skills, ability to plan, organise and implement concurrent tasks. 
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, product and process design. 
  • Be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and have the ability to understand geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing. 
  • Demonstrable excellent analytical & problem-solving skills, a process improvement orientation, and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent cross-function communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.

Ireland Pay Ranges:

  • Ireland: €30,000 EUR Annual
