General Purpose: The Studio Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Globe Collection and Press through administrative, research, and production roles. The Studio Technician provides technical and design expertise to students, visiting artists, and commercial production projects that seek to push the Globe Collection’s legacy forward.

Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Work on the ideation, design, and print production of new commercial work for internal and external Globe clients.
  • Help organize Globe events, workshops, and community engagement opportunities and promote these events through Globe’s social media accounts and website.
  • Provide printmaking and design expertise in the Globe studio spaces. Use this knowledge when working with Globe interns, students, and visiting artists to help advance their practices, knowledge, and safe handling of the Globe Collection.
  • Oversee operations and maintenance of the Globe studio to ensure that all equipment functions effectively and safely, facilities are clean and efficient, and studio supplies are stocked and available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Globe Manager to identify and carry out improvements for advancing Globe’s capabilities and outreach.
  • Troubleshoot digital and analog applications of client projects
  • Take a lead role in managing Globe interns’ schedules, training, projects, and engagement with the collection.
  • Work in coordination with the Globe Manager to design and execute on-going projects including MICA’s Voter Access Initiative.
  • Responsible for selecting materials from the collection for visiting artists and exhibitions.
  • Develop content for Globe’s website and social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Manage Globe’s online retail website, shopglobeatmica.com. Tasks include recording inventory, order fulfillment, web listings, and customer inquiries.
  • Oversee operations of the studio spaces in 1515 and the MICA warehouse to ensure safe guarding and organization of the physical collection.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent understanding of current letterpress and design practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple deadlines and perform many tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Drive platforms
  • Knowledgeable in Adobe suite programs


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a printmaking, graphic design or related field.
  • Five years of experience in letterpress, screen printing, graphic design or studio management.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
