About the Role

As a Statistician supporting Registry of Senior Australians Research Centre’s core goals, the incumbent will lead and contribute to high-quality, impactful research focused on aged care and health services for older people. Working across multidisciplinary research teams, the Statistician will play a key role in delivering research that supports the Centre’s strategic priorities and contributes to improving outcomes for older Australians.

The role will work with a range of large and complex datasets, including aged care data, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) data, hospitalisation records, and Department of Social Services Data on Multiple Individual Occurrences (DOMINO) data.

The role is also responsible for:

  • Assist in undertaking and coordinating statistical analyses, including complex multivariable modelling, and survival analysis.

  • Undertake studies regarding quality and safety monitoring, variation in care quality, and value-based care.

  • Assist in leading and coordinating research projects needs through their lifecycles. This may include advising and monitoring project timelines, milestones, and deliverables.

  • Collaborating with the analytical team data management, linkage efforts, and quality control processes when necessary for ROSA’s implementation, performance enhancement, and other areas as needed.

About You

You have experience in quantitative research methodologies and a commitment to delivering high-quality research outcomes. You have a demonstrated ability to manage research activities effectively and deliver project milestones and targets within agreed timeframes.

You bring well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships, collaborate effectively, and engage confidently with a diverse range of stakeholders, colleagues, and industry partners.

Your ability to contribute effectively to collaborative research projects, establish and maintain productive professional relationships, and work constructively as part of a team, with a demonstrated initiative and capacity to work independently, while recognising when to seek guidance, support, or expertise when required. Excellent written and oral communication skills within an academic or research environment are essential.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum satisfactory completion of 4 years tertiary study or equivalent qualifications and experience in a relevant field and/or area of research.

  • Excellent proficiency working with at least one software package (i.e., Stata, SAS or R).

  • Experience working with observational data, multivariable modelling, confounding/interaction issues, survival analysis, data visualisation.

  • Emerging research experience in terms of publications and presentations at a national and/or international level in a relevant field.
