About the Role:
Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. Our Customer organization plays a critical role in achieving this by building cutting-edge web experiences that drive patient acquisition, engagement, and satisfaction.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Customer Retention team, you'll lead the technical design and implementation of scalable, high-performance front-end experiences across web and mobile (React, React Native). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive front-end architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and influence the direction of our platform.
You Will:
Lead the design and architecture of scalable and performant web and mobile front-end solutions that meet product requirements and enhance user experience
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on best practices, design patterns, and coding standards
Advocate your team's technical needs and priorities within the broader engineering organization
Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility, explore user needs, define product features, and validate ideas with prototypes and experiments
Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive and engaging user interfaces that address user pain points and enhance the overall experience
Work closely with backend and platform engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between front-end experiences and underlying services
Contribute to the vision for the team and the platform as a technical leader, identifying front-end technologies and technical investments that improve performance, reliability, and user experience
Break down complex projects into clear, actionable tasks to drive successful outcomes
Implement front-end observability practices in Datadog, including real user monitoring (RUM), crash reporting, and client-side error tracking, to ensure app reliability and performance
Elevate the team's engineering standards by leading efforts to improve workflows, processes, and tools
Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and drive optimization efforts
Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture and development processes
Conduct code reviews and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives within the team
Identify performance bottlenecks (render performance, bundle size, mobile memory/battery usage) and propose enhancements to optimize app performance
Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, and propose innovative solutions to improve the platform
Act as a key contributor to the hiring process by assisting with interviews and onboarding new engineers
Model a culture of open communication and continuous improvement by providing constructive feedback and coaching to junior team members
You Have:
5+ years as a software engineer, shipping production code
3+ years of experience building React Native applications for both iOS and Android, including app store release processes
Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
Proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (React, React Native, NextJS, GraphQL)
Proven experience building scalable, high-performance web and mobile applications, preferably in a cloud environment
Experience with front-end state management (e.g. Redux or Context API)
Experience with front-end testing frameworks (e.g. Jest, React Testing Library) and mobile E2E testing tools (e.g. Detox, Appium)
Experience deploying and hosting front-end applications, including CI/CD pipelines and CDN/edge delivery
Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and building inclusive user experiences
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
Experience with agile software development and delivery methodology
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within and across teams
Capable of prioritizing multiple projects in order to meet goals without management oversight
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building customer retention, lifecycle, or engagement features (e.g. subscription management, personalization, win-back/reactivation flows, membership benefits)
E-commerce experience
Experience with Node.js for server-side rendering or BFF (backend-for-frontend) patterns
Native Android development experience (Kotlin), in addition to React Native
