As a Sommelier at Conrad Athens The Ilisian, you will play a vital role in enriching the guest dining experience through expert wine service and recommendations. Your extensive knowledge of wines, regions, and pairing techniques will help create memorable moments for guests, enhancing their culinary journey. In this position, you will work closely with the Head Sommelier and the culinary team to ensure that our wine offerings complement our menus, and you will contribute to the development of an exceptional wine program.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Sommelier in curating and maintaining a diverse and innovative wine list that reflects the culinary vision of the hotel.

• Provide exceptional wine service to guests, including recommendations, wine pairings, and presentations to enhance their dining experience.
• Support in training the restaurant staff on wine offerings, tasting techniques, and service standards.
• Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions to grow both staff and guest appreciation for wine.
• Manage inventory and assist in ordering supplies while ensuring proper storage and handling of wines.
• Stay informed about the latest trends and developments in the wine industry, including new vintages and regions.
• Contribute to promotional events and wine dinners, showcasing featured wines and responsible for their presentation and service.
• Address guest inquiries about wines, menus, and pairings thoughtfully and professionally.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the wine storage area and service areas at all times.
• Collaborate with the culinary team to provide input on wine pairings for special events and seasonal menus.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Sommelier or in a similar role within high-end restaurants or luxury hotels.
• Strong knowledge of wines, grapes, regions, and food pairing principles.
• Excellent communication skills in both Greek and English, with the ability to engage guests enthusiastically.
• Passion for hospitality and providing exceptional service, with a guest-centric approach.
• Ability to work well in a collaborative environment and adapt to the dynamic needs of the dining experience.
• WSET Level 2 Certification or equivalent is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
