About Flutter Functions:

The Flutter Functions division is a key component of Flutter Entertainment, responsible for providing essential support and services across the organization. The division encompasses various corporate functions, including finance, legal, human resources, technology, and more, ensuring seamless operations and strategic alignment throughout the company.

Role Overview:

You are enthusiastic, motivated and willing to make your mark. You have engineering skills and a passion for technology. You have experience with technologies such as Java, http, event streaming (Kafka) and build tools (e.g. Maven).

You have used dependency injection and inversion of control in previous projects.

The systems we develop and maintain are serving millions of users. Our technology supports the continuous growth of our business, so we must deliver outstanding quality and performance. You need to have good technical and problem-solving skills and a pragmatic, can-do attitude to thrive in this role.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain software solutions in accordance with open source & co-creation models

• Adhere to community standards and collaborative development practices.

• Have knowledge of secure coding and adhere to good coding practices

• Understand the dependencies between components and how they combine to deliver service to the consumer and business

• Recognize system deficiencies and implement effective solutions

• Look out for alternative methodologies that may be more efficient and actively improve the tooling used

• Be able to identify common concerns to encourage code reuse

• Be familiar with multiple software development methodologies and actively contribute to team and group meetings

• Minimize manual processes and provide automated solutions

• Confidently approaches to large pieces of work which span multiple components and teams

• Tackle tasks by researching and weighing up the pros and cons of various routes to select the right approach

• Be an expert in your primary programming language, and develop hands on competence in others

• Implement robust solutions that work across multiple channels, platforms and browsers

• Evaluate the impact of changes and deliver improvements to your function, area or product

• Use your experience to deliver reviews of changes

• Consider alternative solutions to problems

• Periodically review stats and assess system capabilities considering findings

• Follow QA best practice across multiple components and projects, to ensure that changes do not happen unwantedly

• Align development tasks with business priorities, effectively communicating delivery timelines and proactively managing expectations

• Model high complexity problems - always considering load capacity, system reliability and availability

• Encourage appropriate use of reusability techniques (e.g. design patterns, library extraction, new component creation)

• Support and mentor junior colleagues

• Demonstrate understanding of applications and the implications of making changes to them

• Look out for potential problems to avoid incidents and take ownership of issues with minimal support or guidance

• Be able to debug the applications you own and actively pursue root cause analysis

• Make sure that recurrence of incidents is minimized by applying appropriate immediate actions and consider long-term solutions

Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required:

• This position involves working with and being part of a cross-skilled development team and will have regular contact with teams looking after other aspects of our products & tools.

• This role necessitates collaboration with engineers from various cultural and professional backgrounds. Strong interpersonal skills, including understanding different perspectives and cultural and situational awareness are highly valued for effectively navigating cross-functional interactions and fostering productive working relationships.
