Pepperstone · Vor Ort · Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus

The Pepperstone story started in 2010. We know what it’s like to trade the world’s markets. Our team describes us as a place for the curious and the driven, and we like to do things a little differently; as a transformative global fintech we’re digital, nimble, connected, and united in our vision to create a better way to trade.

We thrive on progress – for our clients and for ourselves. Our organisational culture is ever-evolving, vibrant, diverse, global and results focused. You’ll find our 700+ team across 12 regions and 9 time zones.

Job type and working arrangement

Fixed-term, full-time — maternity cover for approximately five months (22 weeks statutory maternity period in Cyprus), backfilling an existing Senior Automation QA Engineer on Mobile Platform while the incumbent is on leave. Expected start aligned with handover before the leave period; exact dates confirmed with HR and the hiring manager.

Office location, relocation, and hybrid or remote arrangements vary by requisition and policy. Your recruiter and manager confirm the applicable location model and on-site expectations for the specific role.

Product and team context

This role sits on the Pepperstone Trading App engineering thread within Trading Experience (TREX). Related capabilities in the wider group include Mobile Platform, integrations (connectors), and the trading platform (Centrum). Department shape includes Mobile Platform plus Trading Experience teams.

The Trading App is a proprietary iOS and Android client for CFD trading and portfolio monitoring—charts, watchlists, execution, margin and P&L, funding, and multi-account types (e.g. Razor / Standard). It complements MetaTrader and cTrader; it does not replace them. The app connects to Centrum and other back-office systems via connectors, and integrates services such as SCA, Auth0, Segment, notifications, and others as the stack evolves.

Delivery runs in two-week Scrum increments. A typical squad includes a tech lead or release captain, on the order of four developers and two manual QA engineers, with test automation as a parallel track. Engineering outcomes should reflect CFD realities: margin and leverage, contract-based P&L and financing, broker as counterparty, and region-specific regulation (e.g. FCA, ASIC, CySEC) affecting flows and copy.

The Role

The Senior Automation QA Engineer is an experienced individual contributor on Trading App and WebTrader Next. They own test automation architecture, CI integration, and maintainable suites using Playwright (web) and Maestro (mobile) so the squad gets fast, trustworthy feedback on every increment.

They design automation for high-risk trading flows (auth, orders, pricing, critical calculations, upgrades), keep pipelines actionable when they fail, and partner with manual QA on clear scope boundaries. When automation cannot cover sprint risk in time, they contribute targeted manual testing on critical paths—without owning full manual regression (Lead QA / Manual QA).

Release and sprint decisions are backed by explicit quality signals from automation—pass/fail, known gaps, flake rate, residual risk—not informal status alone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own automation architecture and evolution for assigned epics: scope, environments, test data, device/browser matrix, and integration points (e.g. auth, pricing, orders) across web and mobile.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Playwright suites for WebTrader Next and Maestro flows for the Trading App; keep tests structured for parallel execution and low flake.
  • Integrate automation into PR and trunk workflows (GitHub Actions); work with engineers on testability (test IDs, hooks, build flavours).
  • Partner with Product and Design so acceptance criteria are automation-friendly; flag gaps where requirements omit observable outcomes.
  • Coordinate with Senior (Manual) QA on what should be automated vs. remains manual; avoid duplicate ownership and unclear hand-offs.
  • When automation cannot cover sprint risk in time, contribute targeted manual testing on critical paths—without owning full manual regression (Lead QA / Manual QA).
  • Keep pace inside two-week Scrum; fix or quarantine flaky tests within the sprint boundary; escalate blockers early to the Team Lead when pipelines or environments stall delivery.
  • Refinement: flag automation debt and coverage gaps; propose tech tasks before sprint start.
  • Sprint: keep CI signal trustworthy; react to breakages from app, web, or API changes.
  • Pre-release: summarise automation coverage vs. scope, known gaps, and residual risk for release stakeholders.
  • Post-release: drive flake reduction and concrete tooling improvements from retros.
  • Support other QA engineers extending automation through templates, reviews, and guardrails. Formal mentoring is a separate programme; this is hands-on delivery support.
  • Scope is WebTrader Next and Trading App automation quality and CI integration.

Technology and architecture context

  • Context: WebTrader Next ships as a web client; the Trading App ships on iOS and Android (React Native stack). The Senior Automation QA Engineer works across web and mobile environments, test data, and device/browser matrices for each increment.
  • Automation stack: Playwright for web (webtrader-next); Maestro for mobile (mobile-e2e). Appium is not used.
  • Work tools: Jira; Confluence; GitHub and GitHub Actions; Figma for design alignment where applicable. Slack / mail for coordination with dev and QA peers.
  • Devices & labs: On-device and/or cloud device access (e.g. BrowserStack) as the team operates; know app-store and build channels used for the Trading App.
  • Feature flags & observability: Exercise flows behind feature flags (e.g. LaunchDarkly) with engineering; use observability the team standardises (e.g. Datadog) for triage—without owning the analytics stack.
  • Manual boundary: Partner with Senior (Manual) QA and Lead QA on sign-off scope; contribute targeted manual checks when automation cannot cover sprint risk in time.

Reports to the Team Lead (Mobile Platform) as line manager and Lead QA as functional manager who influences quality through standards, practices, and cross-squad coordination (regression approach, coverage expectations, sign-off process).

Day-to-day sprint priorities and blockers are aligned with the Team Lead. Escalate structural or resourcing issues to the Engineering Manager. If a job posting or contract states a different reporting line or location for legal or local HR reasons, the hiring brief and contract prevail.

About you

  • 5+ years in software testing or quality engineering, with depth in test automation (Playwright, Maestro, or equivalent modern stacks).
  • Trading or CFD-style apps or regulated fintech context is a plus; focus Trading App and WebTrader end-to-end flows and integrations the team uses.
  • English at a level needed for documentation, stand-ups, and escalation; experience in remote/distributed squads is a plus.
  • Proven work on mobile clients (iOS and Android) and web trading UIs; comfortable with device/OS and browser matrices.
  • Ability to own epic-level automation planning in two-week Scrum; clear reporting of risk, pass/fail, known gaps, and residual risk.
  • Skilled in maintainable test code, flake triage, CI integration, and reusable fixtures across sprints.
  • Experienced partnering with Product/Design on testable acceptance criteria and with manual QA on scope boundaries.
  • A growth mindset: adopt squad tools for test data, environments, and process improvements from retros.
