Job Description Summary

The Senior Yaw Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership for yaw drive, hydraulic, and passive mechanical braking systems across the full product life cycle—from concept development and architecture definition through detailed design, validation, qualification, manufacturing launch, quality improvement, and installed fleet support. This role will own critical subsystem design decisions, mentor engineers, influence cross-functional priorities, and drive system-level improvements that enhance reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and product competitiveness across the wind turbine portfolio.

Job Description

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex engineering programs for new product introduction, new technology integration, cost reduction, reliability improvement, and field issue resolution, ensuring technical rigor, quality, and reliability are demonstrated through analysis and physical validation
  • Serve as the technical owner for yaw system components and interfaces, including hydraulic pressure unit systems, high-speed brakes, yaw drives, and yaw brakes, with accountability for component design, system integration, functional performance, and fleet reliability
  • Define and govern design practices, technical specifications, lessons learned, and standard work for yaw subsystem components, ensuring best practices are institutionalized across global engineering teams and supplier partners
  • Establish robust validation strategies and test plans to verify component function, durability, system interaction, and reliability, while ensuring test results are translated into clear design decisions and fleet risk assessments
  • Develop and champion innovative design solutions that meet aggressive product cost, schedule, quality, reliability, manufacturability, installation, and serviceability targets across multiple turbine platforms
  • Review and approve drawings, bills of materials, technical specifications, design substantiation, and supplier documentation to ensure compliance with GE Vernova processes, industry standards, and engineering best practices
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with quality, manufacturing, sourcing, suppliers, field services, product management, and systems engineering to resolve risks, improve first-time yield, and align subsystem execution with business priorities
  • Provide senior-level technical guidance for manufacturing, sourcing, supplier, and field escalations, driving rapid containment and durable corrective actions for design-related NCR, SDR, PAC, and fleet issues
  • Lead complex root cause investigations for field and factory failures, synthesize evidence across engineering disciplines, and define corrective and preventive actions that reduce recurrence and improve fleet performance
  • Shape the technology roadmap for yaw subsystem components by evaluating advanced materials, manufacturing methods, analytical tools, digital design practices, and supplier capabilities that strengthen product competitiveness and long-term reliability

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field with significant progressive engineering experience in mechanical systems, rotating equipment, hydraulic systems, braking systems, or comparable complex products
  • Advanced working knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, manufacturing processes, design substantiation, and engineering change control
  • Proficiency with 3D-CAD tools such as Unigraphics / Siemens NX and demonstrated ability to guide design reviews, drawing releases, and cross-functional technical reviews
  • Strong executive-level communication, technical leadership, project management, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and services
  • Proven ability to lead global, cross-functional engineering initiatives with team members, suppliers, and stakeholders across cultural and organizational boundaries
  • Ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions
  • Demonstrated expertise in structured problem solving, root cause analysis, risk management, DFMEA, design reviews, and corrective action execution
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical improvement, organizational change, standardization, and continuous improvement across products, processes, and global teams
  • Fluent English written and spoken, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation, decision records, and leadership-level communications

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent advanced technical experience
  • Advanced working knowledge of Ansys or other finite element analysis tools, including the ability to interpret analysis results, challenge assumptions, and connect findings to design decisions
  • Deep design experience with rotating components or yaw subsystem hardware, including yaw drives, bolted joints, hydraulic and mechanical braking systems, structural interfaces, and supplier-designed components
  • Experience leading system-level design activities, including interface definition, system stiffness assessments, DFMEA, design for manufacturability, installation, serviceability, reliability growth, and fleet risk mitigation
