About the team
Expedia Group’s Creative Tech Team sits at the intersection of design, marketing, storytelling, automation, and engineering. We are building the next generation of AI-powered creative systems that help our brands show up in ways that are smarter, more personal, more dynamic, and distinctive for travelers around the world.
Working across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, the team turns creative ambitions into scalable realities - connecting brand expression with intelligent templates, structured design systems, automation, and emerging generative capabilities.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Creative Assembly Designer who thrives at the intersection of design, automation, and technology. In this highly hands-on role, you will oversee and execute highly crafted brand creative through scalable production systems, helping transform a single creative idea into thousands of high-quality, brand-safe assets across channels, markets, languages, and formats.
You will operate at the assembly layer between creative vision and automated production. Working alongside brand designers, creative technologists, software engineers, machine learning teams, copywriters, and marketing partners, you’ll translate creative intent into intelligent templates, modular systems, and production-ready workflows.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the precision of production design as much as the craft of visual design - someone who can protect brand quality while increasing speed, experimentation, and creative scale.
In this role, you will
Build and execute creative assembly systems
- Execute automated assembly systems that produce high-quality brand creative at scale.
- Transform layered design files and campaign concepts into reusable, production-ready templates.
- Develop dynamic layouts capable of generating large volumes of high-quality variations.
- Assemble creative across multiple brands, channels, markets, languages, placements, and screen sizes.
- Translate briefs and business objectives into channel-native creative for programmatic display, paid and organic social, paid app, app store, and other digital touchpoints.
- Balance quality, scale, brand expression, and performance requirements across every output.
- Partner with design teams to evolve one-off assets into durable creative systems.
- Balance flexibility, creative expression, and production reliability across every output.
Design AI-native templates and systems
- Test, prototype, and execute modular template systems using agentic AI tools and node-based workflows.
- Build reusable components optimized for automation, localization, personalization, and rapid iteration.
- Structure files and design systems to support dynamic content, localized copy, asset swapping, and AI-generated imagery or motion.
- Explore generative brand components, adaptive layouts, and new ways for identity, motion, and storytelling to respond to context.
- Help move promising experiments from prototype to repeatable, documented systems that global teams can adopt.
Automate creative production workflows
- Contribute to and maintain creative assembly workflows using scripting, plugins, APIs, n8n, and other automation tools.
- Automate repetitive production, versioning, validation, and export tasks across the creative pipeline.
- Connect creative assets with structured data, content sources, DAMs, APIs, and AI workflows.
- Collaborate with engineers to translate creative requirements into clear technical specifications and production integrations.
- Improve workflow speed, reliability, and observability while maintaining a high bar for craft.
- Build systems that support always-on content, rapid-turn production, creative versioning, and high-volume campaign needs.
- Partner with Growth and campaign teams to support test-and-learn programs, creative optimization, and iterative performance improvement.
Own quality assurance and delivery readiness
- Create and perform independent quality assurance checks before assets are released.
- Design automated validations for text overflow, image placement, safe areas, layout integrity, localization, accessibility, and brand compliance.
- Identify and resolve graphics, copy, data, and template issues proactively.
- Establish repeatable review and approval workflows that support Brand Studio and marketing partners.
- Own final delivery readiness, ensuring exports are accurate, complete, on-brand, and fit for channel requirements.
- Continuously improve template performance, output quality, and the reliability of the overall production system.
- Validate responsive, mobile-first, and platform-specific behavior across formats, placements, and device experiences.
- Use data, insights, and performance learnings to inform design decisions and improve the effectiveness of creative systems.
Collaborate, enable, and raise the bar
- Partner closely with brand designers, copywriters, marketers, creative technologists, engineers, product teams, and machine learning specialists.
- Act as a bridge between creative, marketing, and technical disciplines, making complex systems practical and approachable.
- Lead or support workshops, demos, documentation, playbooks, and hands-on enablement for creative and marketing teams.
- Share best practices across design and engineering communities and help define standards for creative automation.
- Evaluate emerging models, tools, standards, and responsible-use practices, bringing relevant new thinking into production.
- Clearly communicate the value, limitations, and opportunities of AI-powered creative workflows to partners and leadership.
- Present work, system proposals, and creative recommendations clearly to senior creative leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Help mentor peers and share practical guidance on motion systems, production craft, and emerging creative technologies.
What you bring
Required qualifications
- 7+ years of experience across digital design, production design, creative technology, design systems, or related disciplines, including at least 2 years working in template-based or automated production workflows.
- Exceptional visual design craft and attention to detail, with the ability to protect brand quality at scale.
- Hands-on experience with After Effects and n8n or comparable workflow-automation tools.
- Advanced experience with Figma, Weavy, and other node-based creative workflows.
- Experience creating scalable template systems, modular components, and dynamic layouts.
- Strong understanding of design systems, production operations, asset structures, and multi-channel delivery.
- Experience translating creative concepts into clear production logic, technical requirements, and repeatable workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Visual Communication, Computer Science, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of digital channel and platform best practices, with experience designing for responsive and mobile-first environments.
- Ability to work fluidly in fast-paced, high-volume production environments while managing priorities and deadlines.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience integrating APIs, structured data, DAMs, or content systems into creative workflows.
- Hands-on experience with generative AI tools, diffusion models, LLMs, prompting for production use, or AI-assisted asset generation.
- Familiarity with tools and workflows such as Runway, ComfyUI, TensorFlow Magenta, GPT-based systems, StyleGAN, or comparable technologies.
- Fluency across 2D, motion, and/or 3D workflows, with experience scaling assets across campaigns and product surfaces.
- Experience with Unity, Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, or related real-time and 3D tools.
- Knowledge of DesignOps, creative operations, digital asset management, or marketing technology.
- Experience supporting global brands and localization workflows across languages, markets, and channels.
- Familiarity with machine learning-enabled production and responsible AI practices.
- Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Google Web Designer, Animate, or comparable code-based creative production tools.
- Experience working with external agencies, production partners, or distributed creative teams.
- Experience defining or evolving brand guidelines, motion systems, design toolkits, or production standards.
Why this role matters
Creative production is evolving from manually creating individual assets to designing intelligent systems that produce them. As a Creative Assembly Designer, you’ll help build and operate the infrastructure that transforms creative concepts into thousands of high-quality, brand-safe assets across channels, markets, and languages.
By bridging design, automation, marketing, and engineering, you’ll help shape the future of AI-powered creative production - enabling faster workflows, greater creative diversity, and scalable content that helps millions of travelers experience Expedia Group brands in more relevant and distinctive ways.
