DESCRIPTION: Responsible for maintaining quality control processes, supporting compliance with GMPs and testing best practices, ensuring the identity, purity, strength, potency, and composition of doTERRA products through testing, recording, and analyzing results. Serves as a technical resource within the quality control chemistry laboratory. Performs routine and complex laboratory testing while providing technical leadership, coordinating daily laboratory activities, mentoring team members, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Partners closely with the Chemistry Lab Supervisor to promote efficient laboratory operations, maintain compliance, and ensure high-quality test results. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility.

REPORTS TO: Chemistry Lab Supervisor

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform analyses on finished products, raw materials, and components using entry, review, and/or approval of data in lab notebooks and a computerized database (LIMS).
  • Follow standardized test methods, procedures, and work instructions, document test results, and communicate status of test results. Collaborate with peers and cross-departmentally.
  • Prepare reagents, solutions, and other materials needed for testing. Monitor chemical and reference standard inventory supply.
  • Ensure all documentation and quality records are conducted in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) requirements.
  • Demonstrate and develop experience on a variety of instrumentation and equipment including GC-FID, GCMS, HPLC, LCMS, ICPMS, polarimeter, densitometer, refractometer, viscometer, FTIR, UV-Vis, titrations, organoleptic evaluations, and other analytical techniques, including troubleshooting, maintenance, calibrations, and minor repairs. Communicate with vendors and contractors to troubleshoot instrument issues and/or schedule repairs. Coordinate instrument calibration and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Serve as a technical resource for chemists, analysts, and laboratory technicians.
  • Author and review test procedures, Standard Operating procedures (SOPs), and protocols as assigned.
  • Assist in the execution of method transfers under the guidance of a Method Developer or Chemist.
  • Communicate frequently with team members and management about sample and instrument status, out of specification results, and other work-related topics. Monitor laboratory workflow and communicate emerging issues.
  • Train new employees on laboratory tasks and mentor junior members of the team.
  • Perform lab cleaning and maintain an organized work environment.
  • Support all continuous improvement activities, including suggesting methods for increasing efficiency of chemistry lab operations.
  • Perform all job duties with minimal oversight from the Chemistry Lab Supervisor. Assist Chemistry Lab Supervisor with delegation of tasks when appropriate.
  • Coordinate daily workload assignments in collaboration with the Chemistry Lab Supervisor.
  • Must be available for ad hoc meetings, calls, or questions during business hours.
  • While the company does strive to maintain a safe workplace, this position requires that employees in this role contribute to a safe work environment by following all safety related procedures and detecting and reporting potential hazards.
  • May be asked to perform non-routine work on occasion to assist the department.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Either:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field and 5+ years of progressively responsible technical work experience in a chemistry related field.
  • Master’s degree in chemistry or related field and 2+ years of progressively responsible technical work experience in a chemistry related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work on projects or matters or moderate complexity independently.
  • Knowledge of cGxP and FDA, NSF, ISO, TGA, etc. regulations.
  • Must be able to work in close proximity to products with strong aromas.
  • Advanced mathematical skills, deductive reasoning skills, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, basic computer programs, and laboratory software.
  • Ability to communicate in a timely manner by reading, writing, and speaking in English, including in person real-time communication.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize and plan tasks to achieve daily workload.
  • Willingness and ability to teach, train, and mentor junior team members. Able to provide constructive feedback in a respectful manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of chemical and solution handling.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques and practices.
  • Ability to traverse varying distances and travel between different floors of the building. Traveling between buildings (outside) may be required occasionally.
  • Must be able to elevate and/or move up to 40 pounds, with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods of time, including but not limited to closed-toed shoes, lab coats, safety glasses/goggles, nitrile/latex gloves, and face shields.
  • Ability to manipulate small objects such as bottle lids, small hand tools, etc.
  • Must maintain positive relationships in the workplace by treating others with respect, dignity, and integrity.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
