What We Want

The Senior Associate Director of Residence Life provides strategic leadership and oversight for the on-campus residential experience of approximately 9,000 students at Texas A&M University. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, this senior leadership role manages Residential Living and Residential Engagement and Support operations, including community management, student leadership programs, conduct and case management, emergency response, and summer conferences. The position directly supervises two Associate Directors, collaborates to enhance student success and well-being, and ensures a safe, supportive, and engaging living environment for residents. This full-time role requires extensive university housing experience, leadership expertise, and occasional evening, weekend, and emergency response responsibilities.

Responsibilities

SUPERVISION

  • Provides strategic oversight for the residential experience of approximately 9,500 on-campus students, directing senior staff responsible for residence hall and apartment operations, personnel management, student development initiatives, policy implementation, conduct processes, emergency response, and student support services.

COORDINATION

  • Leads cross-functional collaboration and large-scale operational initiatives, including move-in/move-out programs, emergency response efforts, summer conference operations, and partnerships with university departments. Develops strategic plans, fosters organizational effectiveness, and promotes a culture of teamwork, communication, and collaboration.

STRATEGIC

  • Supports departmental leadership through strategic planning, budgeting, policy development, compliance oversight, assessment, and performance measurement. Drives innovation through research, benchmarking, and the implementation of initiatives designed to enhance the residential student experience while providing data-driven recommendations and analysis.

LEADERSHIP

  • Serves as a key member of the departmental leadership team, representing Residence Life across university, state, and national forums. Provides guidance to students, families, faculty, and staff, oversees student engagement strategies, supports crisis and emergency management efforts, and contributes to institutional committees and special initiatives.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • Manages special projects and operational priorities as assigned, while providing responsive support for departmental needs, including after-hours and emergency situations, to ensure continuity of services and successful department operations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Nine years of experience in Student Affairs or student housing.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel or related or post-graduate work leading to Ph.D.

  • Nine years of progressively responsible management, administrative, or operational experience in Student Affairs or student housing. At least five years of supervisory experience. Experience working at a large public University. Significant experience working with student engagement and/or student behavior.  Direct experience working with live-in staff operations focused on college student housing.  Experience as a senior level housing administrator.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds.

  • Proven oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good understanding of student development theory, housing software applications, budgeting, administration and facilities management in a university setting.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience working with student success, leadership, or support initiatives.
