This is a full-time, on-site position based in Irvine, California. Regular in-person collaboration in laboratories, development spaces, and cross-functional team environments is required.

As an R&D Engineer II, you will contribute to the development of innovative medical device technologies from concept through clinical readiness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, prototype, evaluate, and refine medical device concepts, components, and systems.
  • Support development activities within the established Product Development Process (PDP) and Design Controls frameworks.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including requirements, specifications, protocols, reports, and design history records.

  • Participate in risk management activities, design reviews, verification planning, and technical decision-making.
  • Support development of systems, test methods, manufacturing procedures, documentation, and evidence required for clinical feasibility and product development milestones.
  • Contribute to design verification, reliability, usability, and system integration efforts.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks while balancing innovation, compliance, timelines, and product performance.
  • Support physician interactions, invitro and pre-clinical laboratory studies, and other development activities as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience, or an advanced degree with relevant experience.
  • Experience developing products in a regulated industry.
  • Strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, on-site team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical device industry experience.
  • Experience working under Design Controls and Quality System requirements.
  • Familiarity with product development documentation, including requirements, specifications, risk analyses, verification protocols, and technical reports.
  • Experience with prototyping, benchtop testing, and data-driven design evaluation.
  • Experience supporting cross-functional product development teams through multiple phases of development.
  • Knowledge of implantable, catheter-based, neurovascular, cardiovascular, or neuromodulation technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that combines innovation with regulatory rigor.
