This position is funded for 6 months; continuation past 6 months will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State’s Department of Entomology is seeking a Research Technologist to manage, organize and maintain a research laboratory and several greenhouse facilities and assist with research projects. The successful candidate will help manage day-to-day affairs of the research group, and get involved in conducting research and maintain field experiments testing various aspects of integrated pest management and plant-invertebrate interactions.
Responsibilities include:
Maintain invertebrate colonies and experimental plants, collect and coordinate data, purchase supplies and help manage budgets.
Responsible for general lab safety protocols.
Assist with interviewing and hiring wage payroll employees and coordinate their daily activities of wage employees and those of other students that may work in the lab.
Lead demonstrations and instruct lab personnel on standard scientific procedures, practices, and technique of measuring and recording observations, collecting, compiling and processing of samples and data.
Share research results in public settings (extension or research audiences).
Assemble, test calibrate, clean, or make minor repairs to equipment.
Required Qualifications
Related experience in entomology and greenhouse research.
Must be proficient in field and laboratory research and data collection.
Must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation for working with diverse audiences in a team environment.
Ability to work independently, coordinate several projects simultaneously, and possess excellent organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with statistical analyses is a plus.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $36,888.00 - $53,532.00.
