Job Description: VP of Engineering

GENERAL PURPOSE

The VP of Engineering oversees the entire Engineering organization, including software development, telecommunications architecture, and quality assurance. This executive is responsible for defining and executing the strategic vision for platform architecture, development processes, tools, and engineering metrics.

We are seeking a technically grounded, hands-on leader who will foster a culture of innovation, enforce best practices, and accelerate engineering output while building sustainable long-term platform scalability. The ideal candidate balances high-level executive strategy with the technical depth required to dive into code, review core architecture, and guide engineering teams on real-time telephony infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

1. Executive Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Fully engage as a core member of the Executive Team to set strategic direction, challenge plans/assumptions, and drive a results-oriented culture aligned with company goals.
• Partner closely with the Product Management and User Experience teams to translate business requirements into actionable, customer-focused engineering roadmaps.
• Collaborate hand-in-hand with Technical Operations to drive the continuous evolution of our SaaS platform without sacrificing 99.999% availability, security, or performance.
• Partner with the Chief Architect to evolve product lifecycle initiatives from concept to production deployment.

2. Technical Execution & Telephony Architecture

• Hands-on Technical Leadership: Maintain deep visibility into the codebase and architectural design; serve as a player-coach who is comfortable stepping into technical discussions, conducting architecture reviews, and getting hands-on when needed.
• Real-Time Communications Management: Architect, scale, and maintain high-concurrency, low-latency telephony infrastructure built on FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, Kamailio, and RTP Engine.
• Protocol & Core Call Handling: Drive engineering standards around Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), event socket libraries, call routing logic, media handling, and core telecom concepts.
• Platform Reliability: Balance development speed with platform stability, ensuring proper load balancing, edge security, and redundancy across real-time voice and data pipelines.

3. Team Leadership, Mentorship & Process Excellence

• Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering organization (20+ engineers across development, QA, and DevOps).
• Establish clear engineering metrics and benchmarks for productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.
• Reinforce an agile culture of fearless engagement, open communication, innovation, and accountability.
• Drive a continuous improvement mindset, incorporating modern software engineering frameworks, test automation, and pragmatic AI-assisted development workflows.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Executive & Leadership Experience

• VP-Level Management: Proven track record as a VP of Engineering or Senior Director managing teams of 20+ engineers across software development, QA, and DevOps.
• High-Growth SaaS Scale: Deep experience building, scaling, and maintaining platform software within high-growth B2B SaaS environments.
• Metric & Revenue Focused: Metric-driven executive with a strong focus on bottom-line business drivers, budget management, and commercial alignment.
• Agile & SDLC Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Agile/Scrum processes, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and test automation.

Technical & Telephony Domain Expertise

• Telephony Stack Proficiency: Direct, real-time experience with FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, Kamailio, and RTP Engine.
• Protocol & Telecom Mastery: Command of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), event socket libraries, RTP/SRTP media streaming, and core call handling architectures.
• Hands-On Capability: Highly comfortable being hands-on from a technical perspective—able to evaluate architecture, write automation scripts, review code, and debug critical issues alongside senior engineers when required.
• Cloud & Systems Infrastructure: Experience managing hybrid/cloud architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure), database technologies, and real-time networking protocols.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

Compensation:

The base salary range is: $250,000 - $300,000.

The Base Pay Range for this position is based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and the company's compensation strategies. However, final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other objective business.
