Internship: Reinsurance Broker

Location: New York, NY or Edina, MN 
Salary: up to $30/hour + overtime

Introduction

Not many people have ever thought about what insurance companies do when they need insurance. Well, they go to a Reinsurance company or broker. And that’s what we do. We provide brokerage insurance for insurance companies, meaning we have access to the entire market and can secure the best deal for our clients.

What you’ll be doing

As a Reinsurance Broker Intern, you’ll learn more about the world of reinsurance, risk mitigation solutions, contract negotiation, portfolio management, and general reinsurance decision making for our current and prospective clients. You’ll work both independently and as a valued member of the team.

In addition, you’ll also:

• Help with reinsurance placements and client initiatives

• Help in tracking reinsurance placements

• Help with the creation of client marketing materials

• Perform risk analysis and financial modeling

• Complete market research and analysis

Who we’re looking for

You’ll be able to clearly communicate your thoughts and ideas both in writing and in person. And be able to handle multiple tasks and projects at the same time in a client service, deadline-driven environment.

You will:

• Be actively pursuing a degree majoring in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance Mathematics, Accounting or Economics

• Have a GPA of 3.5+

• Be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

• Pay close attention to detail, because every small detail matters

• Legally authorized to work in the US

Pre-recorded video interview: You’ll record your answers to a few questions using your phone or laptop, giving you the chance to tell us more about yourself in your own time in a relaxed setting.

Assessment center: Our final stage is an assessment center, which will ideally be in-person, but may be virtual. You'll take part in some fun group activities and meet our team in a relaxed setting. This day is all about getting to know you better and for you to see what it's like to be part of Howden and experience our culture.
