We are looking to add a Radiation Effects Engineer I to our team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about developing the next generation of space systems, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you will support the analysis, characterization, and verification of radiation effects impacting electronic components and systems for products and platforms. This role contributes to product development by supporting radiation effects analyses, assisting with testing activities, and evaluating radiation susceptibility to help ensure products satisfy technical, reliability, and mission requirements for space environments.

Working cross-functionally with electrical, hardware, FPGA, systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, integration and test, quality, and program teams, this role supports radiation effects analysis, testing, and mitigation throughout the product development lifecycle.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support radiation effects analyses for electronic components, integrated circuits, and electrical subsystems supporting products and platforms.
  • Perform radiation assessments, component evaluations, shielding analyses, and worst-case analyses to support radiation-tolerant hardware designs.
  • Review radiation environments, component specifications, engineering data, and technical documentation while supporting radiation effects engineering activities.
  • Support radiation testing, characterization, data collection, and design validation activities.
  • Analyze total ionizing dose (TID), single event effects (SEE), displacement damage, laboratory measurements, and engineering data while documenting findings.
  • Assist with design verification, root cause investigations, engineering changes, and qualification activities supporting product development.
  • Cross-Functional Engineering Support
  • Collaborate with electrical, hardware, FPGA, systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, integration and test, quality, and program teams supporting radiation effects engineering activities.
  • Prepare radiation analyses, technical reports, test procedures, qualification documentation, and design review materials supporting engineering decisions.
  • Support design reviews, technical discussions, hardware integration, and engineering investigations throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Maintain radiation analysis documentation, test results, qualification records, and configuration-controlled technical data.
  • Apply engineering standards, radiation analysis practices, company procedures, and customer requirements throughout product development.
  • Recommend improvements that enhance radiation tolerance, product reliability, and design quality.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree with 0–2 years of related experience in electrical engineering, physics, nuclear engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Direct experience performing many or all of the responsibilities listed above.
  • Direct experience working with automotive and high volume commercial grade parts in radiation environments.
  • Good understanding of the radiation physics relevant to electronic components.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication ability.
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with ray tracing tools such as FASTRAD
  • Experience with radiation susceptibility of RF components including III-V transistors (GaAs, Gan)
  • Specialization of SEE analysis and test of complex digital devices such as FPGAs, processors,  and memories (RAM and NVM)
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Circuit Theory.
  • Basic programming and scripting, such as Python.
  • Managing databases of component test data.
