This is a temporary position, and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position to work in a temporary position.  All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located at 1405 N Church St, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, Nash County, with the Department of Transportation.   

 
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $39.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).  
 
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed in the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants. 

Management Preferences:  

• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration

• Considerable knowledge of operations and standards in the program area of assignment

• Basic knowledge of personnel policies and procedures

• Skill in collecting and analyzing data and information

• Skill in program analysis and evaluation

• Skill in communicating effectively with program stakeholders

• May require basic knowledge of accounting practices and procedures

• Ability to initiate and install administrative programs and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness

• Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing, applying, and interpreting policies and procedures

• Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate employees (if applicable) and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency personnel, officials, and the general public

Minimum Education and Experience

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
