Job Summary:

As Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead and mentor a team of engineers, overseeing the delivery of high-performance, distributed systems and web-based user-facing applications. You’ll drive technical direction and project execution, model and foster a culture rooted in empathy, clear communication, technical excellence, adaptability, and inclusion; a foundation that will catalyze innovation in a complex, dynamic environment. Your unique blend of hands-on experience, architectural vision, and people leadership will help shape the next generation of Disney’s programmatic ad technology.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

● Collaborate with cross-functional partners to facilitate sprint planning and prioritization, translating requirements into actionable implementation tickets and technical plans with measurable outcomes that align with business and product goals.

● Guide and support your team in architecting, designing, and implementing scalable, maintainable, loosely coupled, and testable software for a high-performance ad platform.

● Review code, architecture, and system designs, maintaining high standards of quality, interoperability, observability, and best practices.

● Estimate effort and evaluate design trade-offs for high throughput, low latency microservices.

● Communicate openly and listen actively, ensuring your team and stakeholders understand context, goals, and decisions.

● Coach, mentor, and develop engineers by providing actionable feedback, regular 1:1s, recognition, and career growth support.

● Champion an inclusive and transparent culture, encouraging diverse perspectives and building trust.

● Lead effective conflict resolution with a solutions-oriented, positive approach. ● Take part in performance management, annual reviews, and development planning for your reports to support career growth.

● Encourage accountability and ownership—celebrating wins, learning from failure, and instilling confidence.

● Participate in a weekly-rotating On-Call support schedule.

 Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

● 8+ years of software engineering experience

● Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and managing a team of engineers.

● Advanced proficiency with Java, the SDLC, and solid knowledge of micro-service architecture.

● Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend libraries/frameworks (ReactJS or similar).

● Strong hands-on knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.), including schema and query design, as well as NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB) database technologies.

● Hands-on experience building performant web-based user interfaces.

● Demonstrable analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.

● Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and system design.

● Great communication, collaboration skills and a strong teamwork ethic with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience with

● Spring Boot and related Spring projects.

● Relational databases, such as MySQL or Postgres

● Non-relational database technologies like DynamoDB.

● JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as React, Node.js

● Caching datastores such as Redis, ValKey, or MemCache.

● Data Streaming Mechanisms such as Apache Kafka and/or AWS Kinesis.

● Cloud platforms such as AWS.

● Modern DevOps tools such as Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Required Education

● BS or MS in Computer Science / Engineering or relevant work experience.
