Internal Vacancy: Parts & Materials Controller

About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Parts & Materials Controller to join the Aftermarket team.
This role is responsible for managing the sourcing, ordering, inventory control and distribution of parts and materials across our Anston and Harlow workshop operations. Working closely with workshop, planning and operational teams, you will ensure materials are available when needed to support maintenance, refurbishment and repair activities safely, efficiently and on schedule.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining stock accuracy, managing supplier relationships, expediting orders, and providing visibility of supply risks that may impact operational delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and identify parts, components and materials using manufacturer systems, supplier catalogues and technical documentation.
- Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring timely delivery of materials.
- Monitor order progress and proactively resolve supply delays and shortages.
- Build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve responsiveness and service levels.
- Manage stock and inventory across both workshop locations.
- Maintain accurate stock records and undertake regular stock counts and audits.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
- Analyse stock usage trends and recommend inventory improvements.
- Coordinate stock transfers between locations where required.
- Work closely with workshop teams to ensure materials are available ahead of scheduled work.
- Support operational planning through forecasting future parts requirements.
- Produce inventory, stock value and performance reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency, stock control and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure all activities comply with company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will bring strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to managing parts availability within a busy operational environment.
You will have:
- Experience in stock control, inventory management, procurement or parts operations.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience using ERP, purchasing or stock control systems.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- The ability to interpret technical information, parts catalogues and manufacturer documentation.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- A problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of cost control principles.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of the bus and coach industry.
- Automotive parts or workshop experience.
- Understanding of aftermarket operations.
- Experience analysing inventory data and identifying stock trends.
