Overview
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking an experienced Oracle OCI Cloud Engineer to support and maintain critical Oracle database and cloud infrastructure environments. This role is responsible for Oracle database administration, cloud platform support, migration initiatives, production operations, and performance optimization while ensuring the stability, availability, and security of enterprise systems. The ideal candidate brings extensive Oracle database expertise, hands-on cloud administration experience, and the ability to provide production support in a mission-critical government environment.

Job Description
The Oracle OCI Cloud Engineer will provide administration, maintenance, and operational support for enterprise Oracle database environments supporting the Virginia Department of Health. This position focuses on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Oracle database administration, migration projects, disaster recovery, database performance, and production support while collaborating with technical teams to maintain highly available and secure systems.
Responsibilities
Technical Duties
- Administer Oracle Grid Control environments, including Oracle Grid Control 13c.
- Manage Oracle Database 19c and newer enterprise database environments.
- Perform Oracle database administration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Execute Oracle database migrations from Solaris to Linux environments.
- Configure, manage, and maintain Oracle RMAN backup, restore, and Data Guard solutions.
- Optimize Oracle database performance through tuning and ongoing maintenance.
- Administer and support Oracle APEX environments.
- Support Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments and related cloud technologies.
- Maintain database availability, integrity, and operational reliability.
Cloud & Infrastructure Support
- Support Oracle cloud administration and related cloud platform operations.
- Assist with cloud infrastructure configuration and maintenance.
- Collaborate on enterprise database modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
Operational Support
- Provide production support for critical enterprise applications and databases.
- Participate in scheduled on-call rotations.
- Support after-hours and weekend maintenance activities as required.
- Respond to production incidents and restore services within established service expectations.
Collaboration
- Work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to support enterprise database services.
- Coordinate technical activities supporting the Virginia Department of Health's cloud and database environments.
- Participate in troubleshooting, system upgrades, and ongoing operational improvements.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 10 years of experience performing Oracle database migration from Solaris to Linux (Oracle Database 11g/12c).
- 10 years of experience with Oracle database backup, restore, RMAN, and Data Guard.
- 10 years of experience in Oracle database performance tuning, maintenance, and administration.
- 10 years of experience providing on-call production support.
- 7 years of experience administering Oracle Grid Control, including version 13c.
- 5 years of experience administering and supporting Oracle APEX.
- Experience administering Oracle Database 19c and above.
- Must be willing and able to work onsite in Richmond, VA once onsite restrictions are lifted.
- Must be available for after-hours, weekend work, and on-call rotation as required.
- Must participate in both phone and in-person interviews.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 years of experience with Oracle WebLogic 12c and Oracle Fusion Middleware.
- 5 years of experience with Windows, SQL Server, and IIS administration.
- 3 years of experience with Oracle Cloud setup, AWS, or Azure administration.

Compensation
This is a 1099 Contract opportunity.
Pay Rate: $46 – $66 per hour
