Sound good? We have an exciting opportunity for an Operational Specialist Team Leader -Security Operations and Planning to join us in our Security Team.

The preferred base for this post in our Dundee Office but other locations will be considered. There will be a requirement to travel to Dundee for training and team working

What You'll do

You'll provide expertise in all aspects of security with a focus on security policy and strategy, delivering security awareness training and advice across Scottish Water and its partners, investigating significant security incidents, and representing Scottish Water at meetings with Police Scotland and other external agencies.

You'll be responsible for the preparation and update a variety of security policy, procedures and plans (including SW Security Manual, CCTV, security incident management and alarm response) for internal and external stakeholders.  Additionally, you will create and deliver a wide range of training material to support these and plan, deliver and evaluate appropriate exercising.

You'll manage the security incident reporting system; analysing trends, investigating security incidents; and providing regular business-wide updates; producing reports and recommendations to the business for improvements to security systems and procedures.

As a lead subject matter expert, you'll provide strategic guidance, lead our response to emerging national security risks, and play a key role in protecting Scottish Water's people, assets and critical infrastructure.

You will also support the wider team with advice and support on a range of topics, ensuring compliance with SEMD requirements and Scottish Government directions.

You'll support, coach and advise our team of Protective Security Specialists in all aspects of their role.

You'll make sure that SW is aware of appropriate security-related legislation issued by UK and Scottish Governments; identify what is relevant to Scottish Water, assess the impact and develop a response on behalf of SW, including briefing senior management.

What you’ll need

You will have previous experience that has built knowledge of legislation and guidance relevant to the Scottish water sector, including data protection, information security, personnel security and insider threat, and government security requirements.

With strong analytical and investigative skills, you will be able to assess incidents, identify vulnerabilities and develop clear, practical and cost-effective recommendations.

Excellent stakeholder management skills are essential, with the ability to build credible relationships at all levels and collaborate effectively to achieve successful outcomes.

You'll need knowledge of protective security standards, such as British & European standards, and the UK Government's security guidelines, understanding Crime Prevention through Environmental Design and experience assessing risks related to crime and terrorism is important.

Specialist security training through organisations such as the National Protective Security Authority or UK police services would be advantageous.

To support the wider team, knowledge of intruder detection systems (IDS), perimeter intrusion detection, CCTV and access control systems (ACS), together with a strong understanding of relevant British and European standards, codes of practice and regulatory requirements would be an advantage but the ability to learn is just as important.

Candidates must hold, or be able to obtain and maintain, UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance

You should be proficient in Microsoft 365 and associated IT systems.

Finally, you will be required to travel around Scotland, so a UK (DVLA-issued) driving licence is essential.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £45,699. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £56,669.
