At Caterpillar, we're transforming the mining industry through autonomous technologies, advanced analytics, and world-class mine operations. We are expanding our MineStar® team in Indonesia and are seeking talented professionals to support one of the world's most technologically advanced underground mining operations at the Grasberg Mine in Central Papua.

This is not a traditional mining role. As a Mining Technology Specialist, you will work directly with customers, autonomous equipment, and cutting-edge digital mining systems that are redefining how mines operate safely, efficiently, and productively.

What You'll Do

As a Mining Technology Specialist, you will serve as the on-site technical expert supporting Caterpillar's autonomous underground mining technologies.

• Supporting and optimizing MineStar® Command autonomous systems and on-board technologies.

• Monitoring system performance and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and equipment availability.

• Troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and machine communication issues in the field.

• Analyzing operational and equipment data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.

• Working closely with mine operations personnel, controllers, supervisors, and technicians to reduce downtime and maximize system utilization.

• Supporting installation, configuration, integration, and commissioning of MineStar® hardware and software solutions.

• Collaborating with Caterpillar engineering and product support teams to identify, document, and implement product improvements.

• Developing training materials and coaching customer and dealer personnel on best practices and system operation.

• Participating in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, and operational excellence.

• Managing machine and system integrations across autonomous mining equipment and site infrastructure.

What skills you will have:

• You enjoy solving complex operational challenges and using technology to improve mining performance. You are comfortable working with both people and technology and can confidently move between field troubleshooting, customer engagement, and data-driven analysis.

• Technical Excellence: Mining industry experience in surface or underground operations. Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems used in mining equipment. Understanding of industrial networking, communications systems, radios, and data networks. Experience in troubleshooting complex technical systems and identifying root causes.

• Field Support: Experience supporting mining equipment, mining technology, automation systems, or operational technology environments.

• Effective Communications: Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. This position requires advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Effective organization, prioritization, and time-management skills. Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail.

• Relationship Management: A customer-focused mindset. The ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a dynamic mining environment.

Education: Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.

Top candidates may also have:

• Experience with Caterpillar MineStar® solutions.

• Underground mining operations experience.

• Experience in mine technology implementation, digital mining, fleet management systems, or operational technology support.

Additional Information:

Location: Grasberg Mine, Central Papua, Indonesia

Roster: 6 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off
Work Schedule: Up to 12-hour shifts, 6 days on / 1 day off while on roster
Accommodation & Transportation:  Transportation to and from the mine site, site accommodation, and meals are provided while on roster. Simply arrive at your designated departure point and focus on what matters most, making an impact and advancing your career in mining technology.

Relocation: Domestic relocation is available for this role.
