Who You'll Work With

The Development team builds and sustains relationships with funders whose resources make Echoing Green's work possible. Reporting to the Director, Institutional Giving, the Manager owns an assigned portfolio of foundation, family foundation, and corporate partners and helps coordinate the systems, deadlines, information, and communications that support the broader Institutional Giving program.

This role combines funder relationship management, grant writing and reporting, project management, research, and cross-team coordination. You will work closely with colleagues across Development, Programs, Finance, Communications, and leadership, as well as with external partners. The Manager is expected to exercise judgment, communicate clearly about priorities and risks, and create coordination practices that make responsibilities, decisions, and next steps visible to the people involved.

What You'll Do

Institutional Funder Portfolio & Relationships

• Manage an assigned portfolio of institutional funders, including foundations, family foundations, and corporate partners, with responsibility for relationship planning, cultivation, stewardship, renewal, and follow-up.
• Build and sustain funder relationships through regular communication, meetings, updates, and clear next steps, adapting your approach to the partner while maintaining Echoing Green's priorities and commitments.
• Identify opportunities and risks within the portfolio, including upcoming renewals, lapsed relationships, or areas where funder expectations may not align with organizational priorities, and raise them early with the Director.
• Represent Echoing Green in selected funder meetings and external events.

 Proposals, Reports & Stewardship

• Draft and manage grant proposals and reports for assigned funders, including narrative and financial components, in partnership with Programs, Finance, and other colleagues.
• Translate program information, data, and learning into funder-facing narratives that are clear, accurate, and grounded in the work, without overstating outcomes or reducing people and communities to data points.
• Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and background research for funder meetings, highlighting the information, open questions, and context most relevant to the audience.
• Draft stewardship communications, including donor updates, impact highlights, and acknowledgment content.
• Ensure donor recognition and funder-facing communications accurately represent Fellows, partners, and communities and reflect agreed naming, confidentiality, and attribution practices.

Project Management & Systems

• Own and maintain the team’s system for tracking institutional funder proposals, reports, deadlines, responsibilities, and status, and proactively flag work that is at risk.
• Maintain accurate and current Institutional Giving records in Salesforce and partner with relationship owners and Development Operations to resolve missing or inconsistent information.
• Develop and maintain the annual Institutional Giving communications calendar in coordination with the Director.
• Promote consistent use of shared templates, systems, and processes, and identify practical improvements when feedback or recurring challenges show that a process is unclear, duplicative, or creating unnecessary work.

Cross-Team Coordination

• Coordinate with Programs, Finance, Communications, and other teams to gather the content, data, metrics, and context needed for proposals, reports, stewardship, and funder engagement.
• Make cross-team requests clear and usable by providing context, defining what is needed, allowing reasonable lead time when possible, and communicating changes early.
• Bring perspectives from colleagues closest to the work into funder materials and decisions, and surface gaps or assumptions rather than filling them with unsupported conclusions.
• Serve as the Development lead for selected organizational events, employee engagement activities, and special projects connected to institutional funders, clarifying scope, roles, timelines, and follow-up.

Prospect Research & Portfolio Analysis

• Conduct research on prospective institutional funders, considering both giving capacity and alignment with Echoing Green's work, values, and priorities.
• Contribute portfolio data, observations, and research to the Director's analysis of renewals, pipeline health, risks, and growth opportunities.
• Raise questions when funding terms, reporting requirements, relationship dynamics, or other expectations may create meaningful tradeoffs for the organization or the people closest to the work.

Requirements

What You'll Bring

• Relevant institutional giving experience: You have managed or substantially contributed to institutional grants, funder relationships, proposals, reports, renewals, or closely related work. Relevant experience may come from fundraising, grantmaking, partnerships, program or grant management, or another setting involving external relationships and complex written deliverables.
• Relationship management: You can build trust with external partners, follow through on commitments, and navigate competing interests without losing sight of organizational priorities.
• Communication: You write clearly for different audiences, translate complex information without oversimplifying it, and make expectations, decisions, and next steps easy for others to understand.
• Collaboration: You proactively engage the people whose knowledge or perspective is needed, share context, and coordinate work in a way that supports shared ownership rather than relying on one person to hold all of the information.
• Focus and prioritization: You can manage multiple deadlines and relationships, distinguish what is most important, adjust plans when conditions change, and communicate early when scope, timing, or resources need to be revisited.
• Detail orientation: You set and maintain clear standards for accuracy, review written and data-based work carefully, notice inconsistencies, and address errors before they create downstream problems.
• Equity-mindedness: You examine assumptions, consider how power, access, identity, and representation can shape relationships and decisions, and seek perspectives that may be missing before moving forward.
• Judgment and discretion: You handle confidential information with care, recognize when a decision requires additional input, and surface risks or misalignment rather than allowing urgency to override sound judgment.
• Tools: You are comfortable using a CRM, project management tools, spreadsheets, and presentation software to organize information and manage work. Experience with Salesforce, Asana, Excel, and PowerPoint is helpful, but experience with comparable tools is also relevant.

Salary range: $90,000 - $95,000/year

Work Location

This role is open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S., provided they are available to work full-time on Eastern Time (New York business hours) to ensure alignment with colleagues and partners.  We welcome applicants who are legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. This role requires occasional domestic travel (up to two times per year) to cultivate and steward partnerships.
