Tetra Maritime · Vor Ort · Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria

Company Background

Tetra Maritime is the Nigerian operating platform of Union Maritime Limited, an international shipping group established in 2006 with offices across four continents. Union Maritime operates a diversified fleet of circa 100 vessels across the tanker and dry bulk sectors, with a strong presence in the clean products and light chemical markets. Tetra serves as the group’s principal presence in Nigeria, supporting its vessels and cargoes across Nigerian and West African trades. This role is based in Abuja to keep Tetra close to the government bodies, regulators and agencies that are central to its activities in the country.

The Position

We are looking for a proactive and well-connected Local Content Associate to represent Tetra Maritime and the wider Union Maritime group on the ground in Abuja. Working closely with the operations and documentation teams in Lagos and the commercial team in London, the role is hands-on and mobile: meeting government officials, keeping document approvals and permits on track, building and maintaining relationships across the sector, and keeping the group informed of developments in the Nigerian oil and gas market. It will suit an energetic and personable individual who is comfortable moving between government offices and agencies to get things done, and who can represent the group credibly and professionally in-country.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Act as Tetra Maritime’s local point of contact in Abuja, meeting regularly with government officials, regulators and authorities – including bodies such as NIMASA, the Nigerian Ports Authority and Nigerian Customs – as well as agencies, oil majors, terminals, agents and local partners.

· Prepare, submit and follow up on documentation, permits and approvals, making sure they are progressed and completed on time and that the group stays compliant with Nigerian maritime and trade regulation, including Cabotage, Local Content and customs requirements.

· Develop and maintain strong relationships across government bodies, partners and stakeholders in Nigeria, representing the group’s interests credibly and professionally in-country.

· Monitor developments in the Nigerian oil and gas sector and keep the group updated on new opportunities, regulatory changes and market developments.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following:

· A good working knowledge of Nigerian government processes, approvals and Local Content requirements, and confidence navigating the relevant authorities and agencies.

· An established network among Nigerian authorities, agencies, oil and gas and industry contacts, or the proven ability to build one quickly.

· Willingness to travel frequently and move between government offices and agencies across Abuja and the wider country.

· A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience, ideally with a background in government liaison, regulatory affairs, documentation or compliance within shipping, oil and gas, logistics or a related sector.

Skills:

· Strong relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills, able to build trust with regulators, authorities, partners and internal group functions.

· Good organisation and time management, with the ability to keep multiple approvals, deadlines and priorities on track at once.

· Clear, credible written and verbal communication, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualities:

· Proactive, resourceful and comfortable working independently and solving problems on the ground.

· Reliable, with exceptional attention to detail and high standards of accuracy across documentation and reporting.

· Resilient and adaptable, staying composed amid the unpredictability of the industry and the local operating context.

· Honest, professional and trustworthy, demonstrating integrity and ethical conduct in all dealings with officials and partners.
