Your first assignment

In your first assignment, you will likely help build and operate the secure delivery pipelines that carry federal systems into production. The work may include:

• Building and maintaining continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines that take services from commit to deployment the same way every time, including progressive delivery through blue/green and canary deployments with automated health checks and rollback.
• Writing infrastructure as code on Amazon Web Services (AWS) so environments come from templates rather than manual setup.
• Containerizing services and keeping the images small, patched, and scanned.
• Connecting monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning to make systems observable and provably secure.
• Helping assemble the security evidence that carries a system through its Authority to Operate (ATO).

Adaptability and an appetite for learning new concepts, systems, and tools will move you forward fastest here.

What you'll build

• Pipelines a team relies on every day, making builds, tests, and deployments routine rather than events.
• The security fabric around those pipelines, learned by doing, with automated static application security testing (SAST), dynamic application security testing (DAST), and software composition analysis (SCA); policy-as-code checks; monitoring and logging; and controls mapped to National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-53 (NIST SP 800-53).
• Working automation reviewed by people who explain what to change and why, together with the findings you track down along the way. These are the fastest ways to get good at this.
• Your contribution to a shift-left practice that builds security in from the start, with your part growing as you show you can carry more.
• Artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted engineering as standard practice, with you learning tools such as Amazon Q Developer across the lifecycle.
• And over time, the firm itself, through the new capabilities, tools, and lines of business you help launch.

What you bring

• A foundation in scripting, cloud fundamentals, and delivery automation, with a real appetite to deepen your security skills.
• Delivery habits in version control, automated testing, code review, and secure configuration, or the willingness to build those habits quickly.
• The ability to explain clearly what you have done, where you are stuck, and what you need.
• Precision in work where accuracy and auditability are not optional.

What you'll need

Sole United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination are required for this initial engagement. This is a hybrid role based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and it requires commuting into DC regularly. Everything else, including the years, certifications, and specific tools, we ask in the application and discuss during the interview.

Requirements

• At least one year of software development, platform, or operations engineering experience
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
• Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Working knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) concepts, with hands-on experience in at least one pipeline tool
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services and with containerization
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, using CloudFormation or Terraform
• Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred

• Exposure to Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) compliance, NIST SP 800-53 controls, or Authority to Operate (ATO) processes
• Experience with vulnerability scanning or security tooling (SAST, DAST, or policy-as-code)
• Exposure to Amazon Web Services or an Amazon Web Services certification
• Federal information technology experience
• Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling
